What are your choices of the greatest songs that don't have their titles in the lyrics?? You know those type of songs, the ones that make you say "how in the hell did they come up with blah blah as the title of this song?"

There are lots that I could pick but I will go with these:

    "True Faith" - New Order
    "Epic" - Faith No More
"Bullet With Butterfly Wings" - Smashing Pumpkins
    "For Martha" - Smashing Pumpkins
"How to Disappear Completely" - Radiohead
    "Paranoid Android" - Radiohead

That is all I'm gonna list although Radiohead and the Pumpkins have had some others (Airbag, Optimistic, Cherub Rock, Mayonaise, Drown, etc.) plus there are other songs I have that I just can't think of right now that are good.

So, hopefully some of you can jog my memory with your choices.

Black Dog by Led Zepplin, so named because a black dog wandered into the studio during recording.

    "Corduroy" - Pearl Jam
    "Yellow Ledbetter" - Pearl Jam
    "Longview" - Green Day
    "Plush" - Stone Temple Pilots
    "Enter Sandman" - Metallica
    "Clint Eastwood" - Gorillaz
"El Scorcho" - Weezer (technically, the title is said in a garbled voice before the song starts, but it's not IN the song.)

Ride The Lightning - Metallica (come to think of it, they've got several songs without the title in the lyrics)
Sympathy For The Devil - Rolling Stones (does this count?)

A lot of New Order songs didn't have the titles in the lyrics -- perhaps a reason why they didn't sell so well? Maybe people didn't know what song they were looking for?

A couple that spring to mind, besides the already-mentioned "True Faith," are "Bizarre Love Triangle" (probably best known to people as "Every Time I See You Falling") and "Round and Round."

Not all of these are necessarily my favorites, but they meet the other criteria:

Ballad of El Goodo - Big Star
    Thirteen - Big Star
Then She Did - Jane's Addiction
Ted, Just Admit It - Jane's Addiction
    Siva - Smashing Pumpkins
    Paranoid - Black Sabbath
May This Be Love - Jimi Hendrix
Elderly Woman Behind a Counter in a Small Town - Pearl Jam

Of course, most of my favorite jazz and ambient artists don't have any words in their songs. Do they count?
