Yes, everyone plays defense. The Rockets need a big that can change shots not jack up 3s. That is why they have all those other perimeter shooters for.
Absolutely right! We were 8th in the leage in PPG (102.4) last season as a team. We were tied for 21st (102.7) in PPG allowed. As I said in another thread, Yao will help that some, but we'd be completely foolish to believe that he can even stay healthy for 100 games, let alone that simply his presence would elevate our D to playoff levels.
OK, according to Chad Ford's Mock Draft the Warriors are eyeing Cousins at 6. If he slips that far, what about the Rockets making a draft day trade with them giving up the 14th pick for Biedrens? That would give us a quality backup center to Yao....and someone that could play with our current team, and someone that is NBA tested TODAY, rather than a flyer with the 14th pick. What do you guys think? DD

Biedrins would be an interesting pickup, yeah. He can run and he has serviceable defense to boot. I'm not very familiar with his rebounding though. EDIT: I feel like I would need more from the Warriors though. Draft picks are valuable as long as you have a solid scouting staff.
While that trade could possibly be done using Jared Jeffries as filler to make the salaries work (with GSW saving a few million bucks next year in the process), I don't think Morey has any interest in tying up the Rockets' salary cap for the foreseeable future for Andris Biedrins. Biedrins is owed $9M in each of the next FOUR seasons. Plus, I think if Yao shows that he's never coming back from his foot injury, Morey wants to reserve the flexibility blow up the team next summer and rebuild around Martin and the young guys. Trading for Biedrins (who is not a star caliber player yet makes nearly as much as Martin does) would seriously hamper the Rockets' ability to start over. This is also why I have my doubts about whether the Rockets will actually use their MLE this summer (unless some free agent is willing to take a somewhat lucrative one-year deal). So, while Biedrins the PLAYER would be a nice backup to Yao, Biedrins the CONTRACT likely won't work for the Rockets.

Thanks. I like all your 7 reasons, way better than in some threads where some reasons being cooked up to make 10.
i don't see it as impossible as they see it all the bring Bosh to Houston could be a bring James to Houston it just depends on him, and as i've also been saying, we have the BEST CENTER IN THE LEAGUE and to win you have to have a big guy so i say: yes he can
True... But at least Marion could play some D... Fry on the other hand.......... Well ... Like you said..
With Yao's health in question, it would be getting a talented starting caliber NBA player in case Yao can't come back....and a trade asset if he can. DD
Would Samuel Dalembert count as a starting caliber NBA player and a trade asset? Because that's what Biedrens is: Samuel Dalembert with a big four year contract.
No. No, it would not. If Yao is healthy, then Biedrins puts up measly stats while only playing 12-15 mpg, as opposed to the gaudy double digit rebounding numbers he got playing a fairly decent amount of minutes in GSW's up-tempo style. Hence, his trade value goes down precipitously, especially factoring in his unfavorable contract. If Yao proves not to be healthy, Biedrins--for as good a center as he is relative to the other "true" centers out there--is simply not worth his contract and will hamstring the organization for the next four years. Either way, no thanks. (Good player, though.)
Yes, if Yao is healthy, you would think they could move Biedrens on......at the trade deadline, and if he is not healthy they have a quality starting center that is young to grow with their core. DD
Time for another trade with the Kings? Andres Nocioni wants out of Sacramento. He has 3yrs./20 mil. left on his deal but the third year at a team option. Could we get the 5th pick for taking Nocioni off their hands? Battier or Jeffries (Either one has expiring contract) 14th pick in 2010 Draft Future 1st Round pick (if necessary) for Nocioni 5th pick 2010 Draft Andres has fallen off a bit since joining the Kings but I really liked him when he was a Bull. Plus I'm sure Scola signing back would be real happy playing with a fellow country man and good friend! Nocioni's contract isn't great but it's not very long and if that's the price to pay to move up, I say go for it! The Kings need a big and should still be able to get one at 14!
