There's already another thread. The kid wants to learn "Karate" on his own, but the teacher shows him KUNG FU in the movie, sir. You're lazy.
I think a reason why they casted this young boy was because they see another franchise possibility here. If this movie does well, the kid will be in his early teens for the second and late teens for the third. Hollywood has long terms plans for this first movie.
You should show them the original so they have a reference. I doubt this remake will have the "Shower" costume that Daniel wore to the HS dance... Or the beaten up car that he helps his mom start... Or the "Put him in the Body Bag, Johnny" line.
DONE, and DONE, sir... they've played it enough times on Universal HD and Starz. My daughters, 9 and 11, are " -ing" at the new one. They want to see it, but they do not expect it to be "better."
The closing "joke" for one of the trailers, where he tries to speak Chinese to the guy in the plane and he responds with "dude i'm from Detroit." Horrible, no concept of timing, nothing funny about that immediate "sup" response.
I will NOT watch this garbage, I get trying to remake the original but with this??? Will..Will...Will....please stick to MIB 3 and Hancock 2 and not destroy a cult classic like TKK.
Just wish Will Smith could stop promoting his son like there's no tomorrow. For this reason alone, I'm not gonna watch this movie!
"Put him in a body bag Johnny! YEAHHHHH HeHeHeHeHe" This flick is getting good reviews. 68% on the tomato meter. I may have to check it out. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/karate_kid_2010/
Cleaning up the box office and the crowd reaction was fantastic... Nowhere near as iconic as the original but see it with a packed house and you might have fun with it...
Went last night with the girlfriend and our two kids. I wasn't into seeing it that much, but it's a night out with something the kids would enjoy. Anyway, I couldn't believe the lines for this movie. We showed up for a 7:45 showing only to see it sold out. We go ahead and buy tickets for the 8:30 showing and there was already a long line waiting inside to get in almost an hour before. I would have thought it was a new Star Wars or Matrix movie out or something. The movie was pretty good. Certainly surpassed my low expectations. I thought Jayden and his mom's acting got a little weird at times and I couldn't understand some of what the Chinese were saying when speaking English. Plus, where we were sitting, there were a bunch of heads where the subtitles were shown on the screen. Anyway, I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. Kind of detracted my likeness of it because you knew EXACTLY how it was going to end, plus the last thing he did in the fight was IMO super human which was weird. The audience was into it as they were clapping and cheering every time he did something good in the tournament. HEADS UP: It's a 2+ hour movie.
Yeah same here went to a 1:15 afternoon showing and had a line all the way to the halls near the rest rooms.. The kids responded very well to the film, eating up every scene in the movie.. By the end of the summer, registration for karate class will be increasing by the masses...
Yeah. I've been wondering if I was the only one who was bothered by the fact that the "Karate" Kid is taking place in China and Jackie Chan actually says in the "Karate" Kid trailer that he will teach the kid kung fu, and not, you know, karate. I mean it's not like I'm going to see it anyway, but still. Lazy is as lazy does.
