I hate these type of articles. They hand pick a few quotes to somehow represent millions or even billions of people.
People moving to the U.S. account for 20 percent of the entire planet’s immigration. Period. People WANT to be here for a myriad of reasons. She was born here for her future. If Yao Ming falls out of favor in China, he falls out in a big way. Plus, his daughter can be the President of the USA....and then... she can plug the damn hole...and then... SAVE THE WORLD!
Saved me keystrokes. Maybe he wants his daughter to have unbound freedoms and choices. America has faults, but people want to come here. Some risk their lives and other hide from the government just to come here.
IMO I think Yao should choose what's best for his daughter and not worry about PR and what people think of him. I think most people will understand even he choose US.
i'm fairly certain that Yao Ming or any member of his family is not in danger of having an uncomfortable life in China or anywhere. China is set to be the economic powerhouse of the world for many years to come. Why would Yao want to abandon his home country for the U.S.? Doesn't matter what citizenship they choose for her. She's rich and famous already. She will be able to do/go anything/anywhere she wants.
I'm still putting my money on dual citizenship. It's the perfect solution, almost a symbol of Yao's journey. China doesn't "allow" dual-citizenship? Please, it's Yao Ming's kid. China is not going to sanction him over something like that. I'm not even sure they can.
Who cares what some nobody in China think? This is Yao's family business. It's not up to them to decide what is best for Yao.
Well said. Anyone can also easily pick a few posts on the other side of opinion and make it out like it is the consensus of 2 billion people. It shouldn't have been difficult anyway since thousands of posts are out there for the author to pick. But I am sure there are enough goofy people who can be led to believe that 2 billion people share the same sentiment after reading the article.
Only one way to settle this, we'll do what King Solomon did. We'll cut the baby in half, half of her will be in China and the other half in the US.
In all seriousness this is easy to resolve. A matter of fact it has already been resolved. If the girl was Chinese she would have been aborted to make room for a more valued male child in the future. Mwuahaha, I kid.
"Chinese people can beat the former Imperialists, in sports, if not in economy or culture." That is a pretty dumb thing to say. Cultures don't "compete". How can you beat someone in "culture"? As for economy... I'm not so sure we are doing so well over here that we can brag about it. How much money do we owe? And isn't it mostly to the chinese that we owe this money?
Not this again. As has been said, most Chinese people don't give a rat's ass about where the baby's born. They're making a mountain out of a molehill just to get a rise in people's sense of nationalism. "Yay! My country's better than yours! Haha!"
How would you like it, if I said no sane American will want their children to be born in the USA. Two points of view both can be right from a different point of view!
Yao Should choose the chinese citizenship because when he has another kid he's forced to choose the american citizenship because of the one offspring rule in china its understandiable then ..
