Sources: Williams to become Hornets coach
    By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

Email Print After pulling an offer to Tom Thibodeau, the New Orleans Hornets and Portland Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams have agreed to the framework of a three-year contract for him to become the team’s head coach, a source briefed on the talks told Yahoo! Sports.

Hornets GM Jeff Bower abandoned his courtship of Thibodeau, a Boston Celtics assistant, on Friday afternoon, and entered into discussions with Williams to take the job. The source says the team will hold an option for the third season of the deal.

Hornets star Chris Paul was a strong advocate for Williams’ hire, and sources say he was hoping Bower would turn to the Blazers’ respected assistant.

    Who?

I really thought Avery Johnson would be the coach. They have major defensive issues... and he's from NO.

lol... Jeff Bower is their freakin' GM. He hasn't done too well with bringing in good players... an old James Posey... and Old Stojakovic.. Morris Peterson. Just terrible selection of players... and the contracts also being horrible. If they had to give up roster moves, I would've let him have it. It would've done the team better.

    Monty will turn this around.

I live in Portland and have met him on numerous occasions. Greatest guy on earth. He knows when to get into your ear and when to be your friend.

He'll have great success with Hornets and especially CP3. They had a relationship before he even got hired.

I expect a huge turnaround for the Hornets.

I think he'll get fired by the end of the next season.

He's a class act - 9yr NBA player turned assistant coach in S.A., then the Portland for several years. Met him earlier this year & hoped to get him back in our studios this summer...until this news - he'll probably be too busy. He's a devout Christian as well.
