True, I don't expect Johnson's abilities to translate well to the majors but with a little foresight, we could have avoided the uncecessary additional cost of Feliz this season. Yea, it's not my money but it could have been better used elsewhere. The Cubs have squeaked at least a couple of hits down the line tonight but Paulino doesn't let it hurt us this time. He so deserves a W. He probably goes 1 more, maybe 2 if he works quickly in the 7th.
Justin Smoak is 3-for-3 tonight with a HR. He hasn't been hitting for AVG and he may never be a .300+ hitter but he's shown tremendous plate discipline (22 BB in 145 PA) and plenty of pop potential. I've caught a few of his ABs recently and I was impressed with everything about his plate approach and swing.
Oh, I'm sure there is adjustment going on. I was just looking at his AVG in the minors. He may end up being a guy that hits in the .270s to .280s as a pro but he has the potential to be elite when it comes to getting on base and slugging. Plus, he's a switch-hitter.
I agree, we could have signed Kelly Johnson to play third, but the Bourn-Geary-Costanzo for Lidge-Bruntlett was a genius deal in hindsight and any other sight honestly. I cannot wait for the draft monday. Berkman... Slam Cashner.
I do, too. He's been starting to get some better swings in there recently. Unlucky for Pence there. He ripped the ball. Half an inch from an RBI 2B.
