I didn't know that. It did have that patented Guest 'mockumentary' feel to it, now that you mention it. Everything Guest touches turns to gold. One of the most underrated comedic writers of our time. Sorry for the long layoff from this thread. Ima - as a musician, is MIghty Wind just the most amazing thing ever or what? It's barely even funny, its just eerie. The part where Mickey is talking about how much she loved performing, and how much she loved Mitch, and those two things kind of blend together... it's an amazing scene i think, the confabulation of affection for a person and for music. Catherine O Hara is just insanely good in that movie. Eugene Levy is a little more over the top (good also), but she is just so non-exaggerated and perfect. That whole movie is such terrific commentary on the ego inflation that musicians and artists go through. Similar theme to both Guffman and Best In Show; how delusion is unavoidable when you take something uber-seriously. Christopher just has that down. As far as this SNL skit goes, it is the definition of everything SNL does not and can not do anymore. SNL is 100% celebrity goofing, gay jokes and repeated characters auditioning for a movie. It's occasionally goof-funny, but it is never truthful-funny; Tina Fey was the last shred of that. Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig would have been unbelievable with some of the old SNL'ers - Al Franken, Christopher Guest, etc. But it's sort of a graveyard for smart comedy these days. Sad.
