My old laptop screen blacked out on me and I don't think its worth fixing the backlight for 200+ dollars. So right now, Im in the market for a decent good laptop at a reasonable price.

Are there any good deals out there? I'm looking to spend 500-600. If I can find one cheaper, that's even better. I might even pay a little extra if its really worth it. Ill use it for normal use like internet, email, basic work/school programs, etc. I don't need a hardcore gaming computer but extras such as video chat or HDMI bluesy watching would be nice but not neccessary. I'm not too familiar with computer specs and whatnot so I don't know where to begin to look. If you have any suggestions or know of any deals plz let me know. TIA :)

For 500-ish, you can get an i5. Those processors are better than the best consumer grade laptop processors 2 years ago. Pretty good value and it comes with a decent Intel graphics card w/ HDMI.

This wouldn't be the cheapest, but likely the best value at tha tprice.

$599 for the Gateway NV7915u has an I3 processor, 500GB hard drive, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 17 inch screen. It has an integrated video card so extreme gaming might be a challenge but for the price you will not get more lap top.

    Check Best Buy.

Your best bet, asus build quality, long battery life, switchable graphics, metal lid, led display. No optical drive, but the Asus ul80 is very similarly priced; a 14" with disc drive.

I have an Acer Timeline 5810T that I bought for like $300. It's really thin, has an 8hr battery. HDMI, Core2Solo, 4GB of DDR3 ram....etc. Not bad. Normally I'd stray from Acer, but I couldn't pass up on the deal.

Seems that it normally goes for around $600.....guess radio Shack had a hell of a one day deal. (the only thing good they have in store).

I am extremely happy with my $550 HP Biscotti from Best Buy.

2.13 GHz Intel Core i3 processor
    4GB DDR3
    320 GB SATA (7200 RPM)
    Lightscribe Multi DVD burner
    15.6" LED-LCD HD screen
    HDMI output
only 5 lbs and nearly 4 hrs. battery life

...wow, just looked it up and it's gone up $100 since I bought it. :(

I got this exact model about 6 months ago. It's been an exceptional buy at that price.
