Yesterday I was named employee of the month, at a hospital that employs about 500 people. Today I had a job interview. Bad omen? Or who cares, do what's best for you?
You ever see that episode of the Office? The one where Dwight says he won Employee of the Month 13 times in one year. He says, instead of giving me a raise they gave me plaques. He holds up the plaques as his badges of honor. He looks like an idiot. Don't be Dwight...
This is true, BUT... I currently drive 118 miles a day, roundtrip to work (where I got employee of the month). That's about 300 bucks a month in gas. I like the people I work with, but I don't agree with the administration's ideas and mindsets, etc. (There's probably a lot of people that feel this way about their work) I feel I have no opportunity for advancement, and am stuck in a dead job market. The place I interviewed is only about 2 miles from my house. I would however, drive many miles a day to do my work (only, in a company car). This job would probably be a good pay increase. It would probably also be more rewarding and at times, a lot more interesting. I could probably advance, eventually, too. Plus, I think I'd get a company cell phone. All in all, I think, if I were to get a job offer, sacrificing the parking spot would be worth it.
Damn, that's an insane amount of driving you have to do each day. Why didn't you ever decide to move closer to your place of work. You could easily put that extra $200 or so in gas money into finding a nicer apartment/house rental.
I used to live two minutes from work. Then, my fiance graduated from nursing school. She found a great opportunity in a city about 50 miles from where we were living. Winters are rough here, so I, having just bought a new AWD, said we should move to her job. It doesn't hurt the fact that the new city we're in is much bigger, nicer, and has way more going on. Not to mention career opportunity is way better. We just recently bought a house on the west side of town. My work is 50 miles east of town. By moving slightly further away, it added about nine miles to my trip. It's not too terrible, actually. Just buying gas sucks. I've actually been looking for a job here in town for about 10 months. This is my first full-time interview I've gotten.
