Hill: why are other GM's drooling?

I've read many posts noting that other GM's are drooling or hot after hill.

Mattj posted such a comment in the GSW trade thread. There have been many others, I think Clutch may have made a similar assertion.

What sources have created/reflected such sentiment? I know Hill "flashed" plenty last year. But I haven't seen reports indicating such drooling so I'm curious as to how correct this sentiment is.

(And it's not that I doubt it, or disagree with the sentiment. I just wanted to understand the basis for the sentiment).

    Thanks.

Good question. I have the same quetion regarding Chase Buddinger as well. I mean, other GMs may regret passing up on him. But drooling over? I'd like to see some reports that can back it up too.

I'm not sure about "drooling", but it's hard not to see why players like Hill or Budinger are appealing. They are appealing for the same reasons our draft picks are appealing, and why Landry was appealing to the Kings.

In the end, cheap, young players with potential are rare commodities. Obviously not as rare as star players like Bosh or high picks. Which is why Morey has no problems making the upward move. But players like Hill have literally no downside. He's dirt cheap. He's young. He can blossom into a great player. As "risk-free" as you can get with an investment. And such players become extra nice when the owner's pocketbooks become an issue.

Nobody is drooling on him. He had like 3 good games so the board is acting like he is the next Chris Bosh...

Both of them seem to be solid backups with potential to be a starter or 6th man in a year or two. And since GMs know we have assets and want to trade, perhaps it seems like they could be low risk wins.

I wonder if Morey's track record also adds to it, at least with CBud. Perhaps GMs don't know what's so great about them but figure Morey knows something they don't. Then again, may be it's 100% fan hype.

There isn't any drooling for Hill. 95% of those drooling GM comments are from Houston fanboards. I haven't seen anything in the news or any public comments.

It's like how some fans are saying that other GMs are drooling over an over 30 yr old Shane Battier for their teams. These fans go on about how Don Nelson and 28 other GMs are drooling over Battier's intangibles.

Because most teams want quality role players, on inexpensive contracts, that they can surround their stars with, especially if the players have an upside.

    Anything else?

If an inside source actually does exist for this particular info, you guys want them to come out and publicly acknowledge it? Just so we can know what might happen in advance? Wouldn't that be a bad thing for all parties involved except random people on a message board?

Why do we need official confirmation that Hill and Budinger are productive young players with great potential for improvement on rookie contracts? That's just true. Every team wants that.

low budget, decent players with room to grow... perfect for GW or Memphis.

They're drooling because they think we're going to give him away. They read the comments on this site, and see that most people here think he'll be no better than a decent starter.

I haven't seen that. More like teams thing Battier can be valuable because of his leadership.

How can anyone not drool over this guy? He is agile, quick on his feet, constantly boxing out to get in position, rebounds at a very nice clip, can put the ball in the basket, and can shoot 15-18 ft out. The guy is also a genuine big man with long reach and has virtually unlimited potential. My question to you challengers is, how can a team looking to rebuild not drool over a player who is a solid bench now and can become a nice starter one day?

    This.

And that they are not headcases helps too. So, pretty much no risk, high return potential, dirty cheap (for a couple of years). Who wouldn't buy?
