Alright everyone, vacation/honeymoon season is coming up and I need advice.

I'm getting married in October, and we're still looking for a honeymoon destination. We may not be able to do the honeymoon right after the wedding, and it may have to wait until November/December, due to work circumstances. Basically, we're looking at all-inclusive type resorts, specifically in the Caribbean, but we would be open to other things that fit our budget. The overall budget is going to be around $2,500.

For obvious reason, we are trying to avoid Mexico (sorry Swoly :p ) and possibly Jamaica

Any ideas, as far as locations, and/or websites to find great deals (I already know about cheap Caribbean) would be greatly appreciated, and probably warrant some reppage.

    Thanks in advance.

    Werd.

I wanted to take a trip down to the Fifth Ward. I was overruled.

Something about marriage, and it's not just what I want to do anymore...

If Fifth Ward won't work for you then try the Third Ward.

Take her Idaho and have a good old fashioned roll around in the potato patch.

If she says "po-tah-to" then you can pummel her with a horseshoe and bury her in the di.... uhhh...

    Have a nice wedding man.

I know it's cliche but Hawaii is great. There is a great balance of "stuff to do" and "nothing to do" plus it can be romantic and there are no money or language issues. I felt Hawaii was all it was cracked up to be.

Make her pack all her bags, blindfold her, then drive around the neighborhood, once you are back to your house, tell her that you're here.

Jamaica. Hands down. Or go on a 4 day cruise.

There are some that takes you to Couzamel (sp?) to Key West and other destinations.

Spent my honeymoon mountain biking and rafting with the newly ringed Mrs. rimrocker in Canyonlands National Park... biked the Maze District, rafted down Cataract Canyon. Nothing like being enveloped by the canyons and stars of God's creation to get your marriage off to a good start.

(After that we spent two days at a resort.)

Agreed. Cruises are the best. Great balance of relaxation/activity and a wide variety of ports to choose from.

Incidentally, Mexico is okay, as long as you stay away from the border. The tourist towns (Cancun, Cozumel, etc.) are still very safe.

Went on a cruise to Cozumel years ago in high school and I can say from my personal experience it was pretty nice. Don't know how it is for married couples tho. Plus this was like a decade ago.

Don't go to Jamaica. Its far too violent these days and there is a current travel advisory to that place.

I've been living in the Eastern Caribbean for the past few years, so I could recommend some islands if you are keen on one of them. They have some really good travel deals, since island tourism has fallen like a rock due to the global recession. Most of the tourists who show up here are Canadians, and Europeans. Not many Americans show up to these areas of the East Caribbean for one reason or another.

If you go the cruise route (which I highly recommend), stay away from Carnival. Norwegian and Royal Caribbean are great on the other hand.

The Sandals resorts around Montego Bay up near Dunn's River and Ochos Rios are safe in Jamaica.

Also the Mexico resort towns are safe too. Don't let media hype steer you away from safe, fun places.

We also liked the Sandals in St. Lucia. Its very safe, and very pretty.

I would stick to "couples only" resorts for a honeymoon. The last thing you want is a bunch of kids running around.

I found Carnival Cruise Liners not bad. My family went on one that left from Puerto Rico that went to St. thomas to barbados to auruba and some other small island.

But I have heard nothing but good from Norwegian and Royal Caribbean though they are a bit more expensive.

All you do on a cruise is eat all day drink all night...stop here and there. Best time you ll have in your life. Just dont get too drunk and fall over.

And yeah I always wanted to go to Jamaica but I forgot there is a lot of violence there right now...boo.
