There's the obvious choice of Battier, but I've heard him say he doesn't have the desire to put in the long hours it would take.

I nominate Kobe. The guy obsesses over the game like no other, he has been a gym rat his entire life. He knows every facet of the game.

He would have the respect of his players and would not let them slack off.

Kobe will probably end up buying a franchise, then drafting the next Kwame Brown

    No mention of Jason Kidd.

He used to lead the Nets on several occasions as a player-coach.

I think that Billups would make a good coach...however you never know who has that mentality as a player, usually role players are better coaches than the star ones.

Kobe strikes me as the type of player who could never be a good coach because he doesn't have the personality for it. He wouldn't have the patience with guys who aren't married to the game like he is.

Steve Nash -- He seems to have good understanding of the game and he knows the responsibility of the coach.

    Kobe - an obvious choice.

    Other Candidates:
    Shane Battier, Ray Allen

I second that. Out of today's players, I'd have to bet on guys like Derek Fisher and Battier becoming decent coaches. Grant Hill might be a pretty good one too.

Great players don't always make great coaches/GMs...

See Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson...

...although Larry Bird did ok as a coach with the Pacers...I think he is more the exception than the rule...

Rasheed Wallace, I'd like to see him shatter the single season record for techs by player or coach.

Seriously though he's a smart player that has the respect of all the other players. Of course it would be interesting to see him deal with the media and the owners.

Kobe, no. In a lot of ways Kobe is like Jordan, and look at the bang up job Jordan has done with his tenure in the front office for numerous ball clubs. A dominant presence on the court does not always translate into good coaching skills.

Chris Paul, Deron Williams and Steve Nash would be pretty good coaches.

Rondo seems like he'd be a good coach one day...Chauncy Billups too.

Kobe is far superior than Jordan when it comes to basketball IQ.

Grant Hill. After all of those injuries, dude is still playing around for love of the game. Very fundamental player as well.
