I am about to buy my appliances at Lowes this weekend and I want to know if you can negotiate price down at all, or get free shipping. Want to say every penny.

I don't know if you can negotiate, but you can definitely get 10% off with a coupon from the post office. Go to the post office and ask for their mover's packet (or something along those lines) They'll give you a packet with a bunch of coupons. One of those is a 10% off coupon for Lowe's.

Yes. I don't know how much (it certainly seems less than other appliance stores, but I was able to get $80 off a $700 refrigerator.

Dude, I just repped you. This is awesome. I actually just went online to Lowesmoving and found this thanks to your post. Most helpful post ever.

Thanks Wes. Every dollar counts here as I have a bunch to purchase. Need a new fridge AND washer & dryer.

Hey, on that 10% of coupon is that going to be valid on energy star appliances that are already given a 10% discount?

Yup, good on "On Sale" items. We bought a refrigerator and washer/dryer that were all knocked down by 40% and still got another 10% off of that.

There is this little tidbit on the coupon page:

†Coupon cannot be used in conjunction with any other coupon or discount. This coupon is good for a single receipt purchase of any in-stock or Special Order merchandise only up to $5,000 (Maximum discount $500). Coupon is not redeemable for cash, is nontransferable and cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Void if altered, copied, transferred, or sold through any on-line auction. Limit one coupon per household. Not valid on sales on previous sales or purchase of services or gift cards. This Coupon is valid in the U.S. only and will expire on the date listed on the front of the Coupon.

Your coupon is uniquely coded, so it can be used only once at any Lowe's® store.

I think you can also get money from the government for getting energy star appliances right now. I know for A.C. and i think washer and dryer too. You might want to google it.

Heck yes you can negotiate at Lowes. If Joe Schmuck on the salesfloor is stubborn or stupid, ask for the manager.

I thought everyone knew about this. Home Depot will take the Lowes coupon too.

I believe starting this weekend they're just going to be tax free, no refund or anything.

You can also go to Loew's website and tell them you're moving and they'll email you a 10% coupon. We did that last summer to buy a new grill even though we last moved in 2006.

Back to the OP, you can negotiate just about anywhere. Some places will work with you more and sometimes it depends on who you talk to. I've gotten things knocked down at the supermarket, Best Buy, and at clothing stores. I've never tried it at Lowe's, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would there too.

Sometimes it's not worth the effort. Do I really want to spend 5 minutes to get the milk knocked down a quarter? Not really, but I'll spend 15 minutes if it'll save me $10 or more.

A great way to get big ticket items reduced is to find it cheaper somewhere else. I do this all the time with Best Buy. Find it cheaper online with a free shipping option, and Best Buy will always match the lower price. You have to go to their Customer Service window, but it's usually significant enough savings to warrant the time.

You can pretty much negotiate anywhere, but I always call the manager of the store first..did that at Best Buy about a month or so ago...that way, no haggling, just come in and buy your junk...heck, BB price matched an online price, no brick and morter store...

Plus, if you open a credit card and pay it off, its another 10% I believe... and remember, Sears always price matches...so check them too...
