Another question, we have hardwood floors which were ruined by the previous owners of the house. Our estimates on getting the floor fixed were $1200-1400. My aunt recently had her carpet replaced with a very good laminate (not even sure that's what it was but it wasn't actual hardwood) for about $800. Does it make sense to replace the hardwood with laminate especially since it is going to cost so much to repair?

in-ceiling speakers in one story house. Easiest job i ever did. Visually the payoff is huge compared to wall mounted ones.

If you have a ladder that is tall enough for the job it is easy.

On a scale of 1-10 where 1 is a light bulb, 5 is standard light fixture and ten is running real electrical wires I give it a 6.

    I do it all.

I have done everything from new carpets to flooring to roofing to carports, all the way up to adding two bedrooms, which I then converted to one giant game room.

I did all the wiring, plumbing, sheetrocking, and floor. I love to build, and I am good at it. :p

I had it done 7 years ago but the going rate to sand and refinish hard woods was 2 to 2.50 a square foot. 1400 seems high. unless the boards are ruined you can just sand them down to remove the bad parts.
