I like to read album reviews from time to time on Amazon when I get bored. There are some pretty bad ones, but I ran across one that was priceless. This guy, get this, thinks that Creed, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, and Default (who in the f*ck is that?) are better than Led Zeppelin or Bob Dylan or some other artists that have proven to be timeless and not some fad!! Here is what he says about Led Zeppelin's LZ3 album: My hope is that an exciting re-mix Led Zeppelin III album comes out soon, like Lincoln Park recently did with their hit album!! They could add phat, Bizkit-type beats, and some rap overdubs to offset Plant's pathetic whining. In my opinion, this is the only solution to remedy the sorry state of this dull record... Here is one that had me howling with laughter...his review of the classic CD, "Blonde on Blonde" by the great Bob Dylan: I purchased this album thinking it might have an 80's heavy metal vibe to it, based on the alluring title "Blonde on Blonde." Hey, what can I say, I don't know much about music!! At any rate, I was at first disappointed by the poetic feel and mellow aura to the album, but soon warmed up to it. I feel as if I've discovered a prodigy in the making here, perhaps a young James Taylor or something. This Bob Dylan character writes with a real passion, a real feel for the world. Nonetheless, emotional depth will only get you so far with the fans. It's time this guy stepped up to the plate and made an appearance on Carson Daly's vibrant "TRL" music program - that's when you know you've arrived!! I'd definitely like to see Daley 'n Dylan sit down to have an in depth chat about music. One gets the feeling Daley might put this young upstart in his place a bit. Well, I gotta' run, but check this album out. It's got an old-time hippie vibe, but you might dig it, man!! As for the 80's vibe I was looking for, I guess I should stick with Poison and the like!! TAKE CARE!! Believe it or not, 2 people did find this review helpful!! Here is his home page and all his reviews if you want to laugh yourself silly.... I mean this has got to be a joke, right??
This guy's tongue is so far in his cheek it's gotta be coming out of his ear. I'll give him a 6 for effort. At least it got me to put on some Zep.
I can't wait to see this Dylan guy, live and in person. I always enjoy seeing new artists. Hopefully this guy will be successful. October 4th, Key Arena.

Dude. You are in for a serious treat. I've seen him about 35 times and this year's been his best in the time I've been seeing him (since 91). Check http://pool.dylantree.com to see this tour's setlists. They're awesome. Make sure and report back.
I just want to add this because I was pressed for time when I first started this thread. Even though I don't care for Creed, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, etc., I have nothing against people who enjoy those bands. It is all a matter of musical taste. However, I DO have a problem with someone trashing artists like Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. and saying that the "in" bands of today are better. I mean the music of Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. have been shown to be not only influential but timeless as well. I don't really know if we will still be talking about Creed, Nickelback, Default, and others 20 to 30 years now. They will more likely be like the Bay City Rollers or the Starland Vocal Band or these other artists that were popular at first but had no sustaining power. And for the record, I have no Dylan records nor Pink Floyd but I have deep respect for both of them and what they have done for music, and one of these days, I will get around to buying "Blonde on Blonde" and "Dark Side of the Moon". I say this because I want to point out that I didn't post this thread as a huge fan of Dylan but as someone who considers themself as a music lover. And as a music lover, the impact of Bob Dylan is a huge one as is the impact of Led Zeppelin.
You should start with "Freewheelin'" and work your way up. 1 Blowin' In The Wind 2 Girl From The North Country 3 Masters Of War 4 Down The Highway 5 Bob Dylan's Blues 6 A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall 7 Don't Think Twice, It's All Right 8 Bob Dylan's Dream 9 Oxford Town 10 Talkin' World War III Blues 11 Corrina, Corrina 12 Honey Just Allow Me One More Chance 13 I Shall Be Free
Bob, Is that like a greatest hits album for Dylan?? Can you, Batman, or someone else (*ahem* dylan) tell me what you think are the best Dylan albums and the best for a beginner to get into?? Thanks
Freewheelin' IMHO is his best album. It's not his greatest hits, it was his 2nd album. Of course I like his acoustic (fingerpicking style) over his electric stuff. You could go down the Greatest Hits road, but there is so much more to Dylan than his greatest hits. If you get a chance to see the Dylan movie "Don't Look Back" don't miss it. Great stuff!!! It was on last weekend on Trio (DirecTv) I'm sure they will have it on again.
My favorite Dylan tune Tangled up in blue Early one mornin' the sun was shinin', I was layin' in bed Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all If her hair was still red. Her folks they said our lives together Sure was gonna be rough They never did like Mama's homemade dress Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough. And I was standin' on the side of the road Rain fallin' on my shoes Heading out for the East Coast Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, Tangled up in blue. She was married when we first met Soon to be divorced I helped her out of a jam, I guess, But I used a little too much force. We drove that car as far as we could Abandoned it out West Split up on a dark sad night Both agreeing it was best. She turned around to look at me As I was walkin' away I heard her say over my shoulder, "We'll meet again someday on the avenue," Tangled up in blue. I had a job in the great north woods Working as a cook for a spell But I never did like it all that much And one day the ax just fell. So I drifted down to New Orleans Where I happened to be employed Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat Right outside of Delacroix. But all the while I was alone The past was close behind, I seen a lot of women But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew Tangled up in blue. She was workin' in a topless place And I stopped in for a beer, I just kept lookin' at the side of her face In the spotlight so clear. And later on as the crowd thinned out I's just about to do the same, She was standing there in back of my chair Said to me, "Don't I know your name?" I muttered somethin' underneath my breath, She studied the lines on my face. I must admit I felt a little uneasy When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe, Tangled up in blue. She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe "I thought you'd never say hello," she said "You look like the silent type." Then she opened up a book of poems And handed it to me Written by an Italian poet From the thirteenth century. And every one of them words rang true And glowed like burnin' coal Pourin' off of every page Like it was written in my soul from me to you, Tangled up in blue. I lived with them on Montague Street In a basement down the stairs, There was music in the cafes at night And revolution in the air. Then he started into dealing with slaves And something inside of him died. She had to sell everything she owned And froze up inside. And when finally the bottom fell out I became withdrawn, The only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, Tangled up in blue. So now I'm goin' back again, I got to get to her somehow. All the people we used to know They're an illusion to me now. Some are mathematicians Some are carpenter's wives. Don't know how it all got started, I don't know what they're doin' with their lives. But me, I'm still on the road Headin' for another joint We always did feel the same, We just saw it from a different point of view, Tangled up in blue.
Excellent tune DARO!!!! Hard to pick a favorite. Here's a good one from Freewheelin': Girl From The North Country Well, if you're travelin' in the north country fair, Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline, Remember me to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine. Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm, When the rivers freeze and summer ends, Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm, To keep her from the howlin' winds. Please see for me if her hair hangs long, If it rolls and flows all down her breast. Please see for me if her hair hangs long, That's the way I remember her best. I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all. Many times I've often prayed In the darkness of my night, In the brightness of my day. So if you're travelin' in the north country fair, Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline, Remember me to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine.

110th, Dylan's debut is good, but should remain a treasure to be discovered after some of his other stuff is taken in.
