Sometimes, an answer can never be satisfying enough. The island is whatever you want it to be. The show isn't so much about what the island is, but rather how the characters react to it.
No.... Shepherd said "some died much later than others" and "there is no now". There's no time in the afterlife I suppose.
No. Jack's father explicitly said they didn't all die at the same time. And its clear that Hugo remembers his time as the Island's caretaker, with Ben as his "#2".
It wasn't supposed to answer all the questions, especially about the island. The whole gist of the the show wasn't about the island at all. It was about the characters. By the way, I'm speechless after that ending. VERY bitter-sweet. And, even though you could see how the very end of the show was going to be, it was still VERY touching when it happened.
The show was great at giving us interesting characters that we cared about. The ultimate ending really has nothing to do with anything that happened in seasons 1-5 other than the bonds formed between the characters during their ordeals on that whacky island.
I really dislike the fact that "alternate endings" exist and they're advertising it like it's some great thing. It cheapens the experience for me.
Now that I understand the ending, I just want to say that that was the most gripping, intense, emotional, and amazing 2 and a half hours of television I have ever seen in my life. Cheers to you, LOST.
I thought it was great until the church scene. I really liked Jack closing his eyes at the end mirroring him opening his eyes at the beginning. I still not convinced they didn't make up most of it as they went along.
I don't care about all the questions, but just want to know what is the island? What was the point of killing MIB? I mean why didn't jack get turned into smokey like the MIB? They died and went to purgatoryl well how to we know they just didn't all die in the initial crash. I feel cheated.
