this guy Bateer sounds like a cool dude too.

too bad we ain't got a roster spot open, cuz he's got potential too i think...

we should start a campaign to rebuild China's Great Wall in Houston. :p

then we'll be China's Team, as well as Houston's Team! If Rockets can get intimately involved with the China market, we can definitely surpass the Bulls in popularity, and that'll translate into a ton of marketing dollars (and imitation jerseys). ;)

anyone seen China's support for their team in the World Cup (soccer) will see that having a billion fanatical fans is damn exciting!

When i was in the game at Vancouver, he was definately almost as good as Yao or just as good in the paint(for that game), a VERY strong body, definatley the biggest Chinese guy i have ever seen, and a great presence. The only thing with Bateer, is that he does not have the potential that Yao does, being that he is not 7'6, and is lacking Yao's outside touch.

Bateer is definately a solid player though.

I'd like to see Bateer as a Rocket too. I think he'd give Yao some off the court companionship and help Yao make the culture adjustment - besides what he brings on the court. I'd cut (or trade for a 2nd round pick) Collier to make room for him.

He could also teach Yao how to drive.

Hope you didnt mean "driving" to the basket, of which I dont think Bateer is really that good.

Bateer was in foul trouble and got his fifth foul after only playing 10 minutes at that game. Ming said otherwise China would only lose to Canada 15 points.

I've thought the same thing. Bring Bateer here. There's gotta be some sorta sign and trade we could work out for one of our stiffs.

Bateer will be an excellent backup center. He can bang and shoot jumpers out to 3 point line. He can back people down and command double teams sometimes. If he has more speed, is able to slash and play better defense he'll be a star in no time. He probably won't though. :(
