A 13 story mosque? Damn, that would make Abraham's building of the mosque in Mecca look mediocre.

In somewhat related news, anybody catch Rand Paul on the Rachel Maddow show last night?

    Probably deserves it's own thread.

I used to think: "No; there are some racists in every group, the TEA Party is no different."

Then I thought: "No, while the TEA Party is primarily white, it just happens that white people tend to have similar views. Still, not a racist movement."

Then: "A few speakers are making racist remarks, which is awful, but I think the TEA Party condemns them for the most part. Still, not a racist movement."

    Now I read this:

So I think: "OK, they don't seem to care that their leaders are racists so they're complicit in the racism."

Ahhh the TEA Party: constantly making me more and more cynical of my fellow crackers.

I think that this not that disisimilar from the GOP which has always been in coalition with racists and fairly tolerant of them. Note: not all GOP ers are racist, but since the days of Nixon up to the present they have usually appealed to racists by various code words.

I guess you could view the tea party as mainly made up of the racists in the GOP.

Yes, without question. On another board the topic came up of the little girl in Detroit who was killed by police recently. You wouldn't believe the comments the well known tea party posters wrote.

Basically along the lines of well at least there will be one less future welfare mother.

Thea tea party IMO is just anger and ignorance mixed together and that combination seems to always end up looking for a scapegoat.

Sure, but they are having success, ignore that to your own detriment.

They are the enemy within, and they need to be destroyed by a coalition of moderates from both parties and especially independents. Should we ignore them, these extremists will eventually have politicians from both parties cowering to their demands, and momentum is damn hard to push back against.

We need to push back NOW, before it is too late.

I also like coffee but the only parties are those in my pants. A pants party.

I completely disagree with this. Most of the TEA Party members are decent, hardworking Americans who lean right and don't feel represented. This group includes people whose views SHOULD not be represented (racists), but your claim is pure hyperbole.

Actually, we made the Coffee Party to have a place where people of any political persuasion could talk about politics in a civil manner. That mostly goes on over there, but I would be happier with a few more reasonable conservative voices over there (I'm looking at you, Refman ;) ).

It's plainly obvious that racists are pervasive in the "party" (lol) and racist leaders are accordingly tolerated.
