Suns did not want postups so they constantly fronted the postups.

Lakers had a layup line to the basket because SUNS could not rotate back to stop the dribble drive because of fronting.

If we can surround Yao with the right talent, we could do this to every team in the league since there is no one who can play Yao once he gets the ball in the post.

Why front Yao when he is on the bench in his suit? :)

Enter Martin, I'd say. Brooks needs to improve finishing around the rim or draw fouls.

Not as easy as it seems. We've been trying to solve this fronting problem since Yao came into the NBA. Little to no luck so far.

You can't call it an "offense" when it's up to the other team to decide whether they want to front or not. You shouldn't depend on the other team to come up with your system. So what if we surround him with the "right" guys for that offense? The opposing team can then just choose not to front and where would that leave us?

Suns aren't a good defensive team plus the lakers have Kobe.

Pretty much means that as long as we have Brooks, Martin, Ariza, Scola, Lowry and Budinger someone will be able to get to the basket to score when Yao is fronted.

Provided the other team is lazy enough to just front Yao and not have good defense to cover that lane.

Poor comparison. When Gasol is fronted, he'll just come out to the elbow and set a screen and then roll to the basket or catch the ball the guard lobs to him for an easy-two. Yao can't do that. Plus they could go to Bynum or Kobe if Gasol is denied the ball.

Trust me, Bosh would fit perfectly in this role. With regard to Yao, I honestly don't know how things will pan out, his mobility is an issue in today's game. I hope he picks up his mid-range jumper so the offense wouldn't stagnate when he couldn't establish himself in the post.

IMHO the triangle offense is an advanced inside-out post offense. They don't really depend on guard's dribble penetration but solid screens, movement w/o the ball and smart and quick reads of the game.

Houston has always been lacking dribble drivers since the fading of Tmac

Um what? Our players become so good at exploiting fronting defenses that the other team chooses not to front Yao and tries to play him straight up, and you think that's a problem for us? You do understand that's exactly the result we're looking for, right?

Jesus, this place is like pessimism central sometimes...

How about shooting the damn ball if Yao is being fronted he has inside position for rebounds. Nobody seems to be able to figure this out.

The reason fronting yao workks is because he has slow feet for the millionth time. It doesn't matter if you have magic or mj on the court, yao won't get the ball when fronted. The best thing to do and what the op failed to mention was how gasol pinned his man when his teammate started the dribble drive. They fronted,he turned back to back and basically screened the guy and they got layups. The typical yao fan forgets to mention this of course

The solutions for a D that fronts has already been discussed many times:

    - Swing the ball around to Yao on the other side if the big fronting Yao is too slow to recover in time
    - Shoot the ball as Yao has inside position for an offensive board
    - Have AB penetrate and either dish it to Yao when he draws the big, or stop and pop after a stutter step, or dish back out to Martin/Ariza/Battier/CBud for a three or Scola for that 18 footer of his
    - Give it to Scola to work his man or get the ball to Yao or back outside after drawing the other defender. We all know that Scola is crafty enough to juke out most bigs
