8 years? That's less than two pieces a day. Come on, old man, double time, you gotta WANT it. And in the dog's defense, he probably ate the piece when it was like the 4800th to last piece... and just didn't realize the gravity of it. Blaming him on eating the last piece? That's just cruel.
I don't even really see how this is a Fail on this guy's part outside of spending 8 years doing it. Maybe he wanted to do it so slowly because he had nothing else to do. Not really a big fail in my opinion.
I'll be there with you, cause I'm still laughing. I wish I could have been there when he realized that his 8 year of work was incomplete. That would make me cry.
He probably faked a wrist injury and demanded a trade before he sat dawn with the owner to have a heart-to-heart... and then he saw the GREATNESS in himself and was surrounded by key players and realized he could achieve AWESOMITY to the squared power... yeah, that's what happened...

he probably hid the last piece himself to get some press.. otherwise he would never have made the news... IF he had completed it NO ONE WOULD CARE. But take 8 years and then in the end you are missing a piece you can garner up a story.
How does this become a news story? I know meaningless stories get reported all the time, but how does a reporter actually find this random old guy with a lame story in the first place? ....Over lunch: Reporter: 'My dog threw up, we found out he swallowed a piece of plastic.' Friend: 'That reminds me...my grandfather did this puzzle, and it turned out the last piece was missing. We think the dog ate it. It's kind of funny because he's been working on it for 8 years.' Reporter: 'WHERE IS THIS GUY I HAVE TO INTERVIEW HIM FOR A STORY!!!!'
Geez, eight years? I know it's 5,000 pieces, but eight years!! Wilt Chamberlain, back in the day, would have handled 5,000 pieces in 8 years easily.
Laugh without guilt. The manufacturer remade the missing piece for the guy. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-remakes-missing-piece.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
