    I guess not.

But then again, I don't think Shaq is loosing any sleep over being liked or not, too busy counting all his money, polishing his rings, playing with his toys, etc.

Doesn't Shaq have a legion of publicists to handle things like this? Why didn't they get in front of the story and let the folks at the camp know "what was up" and that it would be made up somehow in the future. This story surprised me when I heard it, and so has this new one about Shaq's illness. I hope he's OK (except when he plays the Rocks ;)), but this should have been handled better by his "people". Also, I thought he had already had the surgery... not so?

And none of this excuses celebrities who set up these things to make money and don't show up. I've always thought it was appalling.

    Exactly. Well said, Deckard.

    RM95,

Shaq fever story is a total fabrication. The promoter was on LA radio this morning saying Shaq was demanding an additional $20K to show up. Shaq is a self-centered puke and the LA sports writers are nothing but shills. Let's see if Shaq-foo sues this guy to clear his "good name".

uhh, yeah, I'm sure third hand knowledge from the promoter would have no spin on it. I mean, shaq is obviously self centered because we all know him real well, just like the promoter who some guy heard on the radio.

That being said, if he wasn't sick, then he should be stripped of his prestigious CC.net NBA survivor winner t-shirt.

I apologize for that remark in my last post, it seemed just too easy to pass up.

But to the people who think he's trying to shake down children for a few thousand dollars, have you been paying attention to his charity work for the last decade? I could post at least 10 links easy on him donating time and/or money to help children, including a $1 million contribution to the Boy's and Girl's Club of America.

Thank you, Shaq is one of, if not the most generous guy in the NBA. The guy has probably given more of his money and time towards charitable works than all of you combined will ever give in your entire lifetimes.
Hence, whatever the case i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I believe going to the hospital fits into this description.

This is a classic example of placing foot firmly into mouth.

If this were Steve Francis, everyone would be saying, "Let's wait to hear the whole story." Yet, because it's the ever-hated Shaq, some feel the need to bash on the guy before knowing anything at all.

I'd like to see you fly across from Cali to Fla, while in the hospital. Geez, he should put a basketball camp before his own health right?

After all, he signed a contract...

Shaq struck me as a person that loves children, I heard that he wrote a children book. Obviously that Shaq is the male version of J.K. Rowling so he got paid millions to do it.

Did you read my damn post? Just read the last several sentences...you complain about people jumping on Shaq before knowing all the facts. Why don't you stop being so hypocritical and read my damn post before jumping on me? You have it quoted in your own post for godsakes.

"Hopefully Shaq has a good excuse or whatever for his absence; either way, if I were one of these parents or kids, I'd definitely want it to be made up to me. "

I'm fed up with the unpleasant attitude that appears to be prevalent in the majority of your posts.

    kidrock,

You are missing the point here. It was unfortunate that Shaq got sick, but does he plan on making this up to these kids at all??

I find it hard to believe that his agent couldn't have called these kids or someone who knew he was in the hospital couldn't have let people know.

Maybe they did, but you can't glean that from the articles that were posted.

If I was Shaq and I was sick like that, I would tell someone to let these kids know what is going on??

I mean is that really asking too much??
