Well, we're halfway through the offseason. It's been 18 weeks since the Texans last played a game and we're 18 weeks away from the regular season opener against the Colts. The second half of the offseason should go a little bit faster. We have OTAs and minicamp coming up, then training camp in late July and the preseason in August.
The answer..... @McClain_on_NFL: Texans have agreed to terms with veteran OLB Danny Clark, who played the last two seasons with the Giants and the Texans in 2007.
Awesome. Danny Clark is a great guy and was actually a starter here in 2007- made some big plays too, but I think his coverage skills were lacking. Might still be a better option than Adibi to fill in for Cushing.
Cushing brought a physical presence to this team and I think Clark brings a similar attitude. Adibi, Bentley, and Sharpton are all better suited at WLB and MLB. I expect Danny Clark and Xavier Adibi to share time at SLB. First game is versus Colts and Texans play nickel and dime the whole game with only 2 starting linebackers so Diles and Ryans will be the LBs. The next three games are where you are going need Clark and Adibi to step up. I expect both of them to share duty since Adibi is a coverage linebacker and Clark is more of the run stopper type.
Trindon Holliday has agreed to terms with the Texans. He's the first of the draft picks to do so. Source: http://twitter.com/McClain_on_NFL
Apparently Andre wants a new deal From McClain's twitter feed: McClain_on_NFL Andre Johnson missed first ota cause he's unhappy with contract that has five years left. 7 minutes ago via txt http://twitter.com/McClain_on_NFL/status/14174616818
anyone happen to have the contract structure? i'm guessing he doesnt like that his contract is much heavier on the back end.
from rotoworld.com 3/3/2007: (Andre Johnson) Signed an eight-year, $60 million contract. The deal includes $15 million guaranteed. 2010: $5.8 million, 2011: $6.8 million, 2012: $7.3 million, 2013: $7 million, 2014: $7.3 million, 2015: Free Agent http://tinyurl.com/2957qrs Actually... now that I look at those numbers, I could see why Johnson would be somewhat unhappy. Still though, damn. It's not like he's making peanuts.
I don't get it....Players agree to a contract, to make the stated amount of money over time..... Wish I could go..."hey, you know what? I don't like the salary I agreed to (if I was contracted/obligated)..."
I take back my post. Looking at confidential numbers from inside sources, Andre is getting paid more or at least on the level of the elite WR's in the game. Even the good athletes can be whiny sometimes.
Its because teams agree to a contract and say "oh I don't like the way you are playing so I'm gonna cut you and not pay you the amount which we agreed upon." It goes both ways.
Now if we do what Andre wants, then Owen Daniels will be pissed that he's been waiting for 2 years for a new contract. Thanks Dre. I'd understand if you have 1 or 2 years left on the contract, but 5?!? Dang boy, play ball.
You can. All he has said is that he wants a new contract. He is under no contractual obligation to go to OTAs.
Unless you are the best in the world at your job, you don't have the same amount of leverage that andre does
One idea would be that players should insert clauses like the following: If player X is at least 2 years into his contract, makes the pro bowl in the most recent season, but is no longer paid among the top 12 at his position, player X may terminate the remaining years on his deal and become a restricted free agent. Basically, if the player is at the top of his position, and the contract becomes "outdated", tear it up and reset it to a proper value. Evan
OD is in the same place Dunta was. He needs to prove he's the same OD and will still get chopped like Dunta did. Don't expect OD here for too long.
The only issue I really have with any of this is that his uncle still hasn't been exposed for the hack that he truly is. Every time the guy opens his mouth, it's either to let the media know that Andre is open to leaving the Texans, or that he's not happy with how the Texans aren't winning. He mistakes chest-puffing and false posturing for being a good agent, when clearly he lacks the necessary skills to be a truly good agent. Why on Earth would anyone recommend their client sign an 8 YEAR DEAL.....especially in a league with such a volatile financial landscape like the NFL??? He's the true culprit in all of this. Not the Texans.
