Well, he came up just short. Any thoughts or feelings? He was getting a lot of press heading into the last day which I thought was ridiciulous. But once again, he proved he deserved it. The guy is on another level. The only other strange thing was that ABC (or whoever) cut from a commercial to show the winner kissing his wife. What's up with that? It was like their money shot or something. I couldn't believe it. They broke commercial to show it. Then went back to commercial. Do they have nothing better to do than focus on a guy's attractive wife. C'mon people. Watch showtime or something. It was kinda tasteless if you ask me. But whatever.
Tiger was his own worst enemy in this tournament. He was actually making a charge on Sunday -- it seemed like he might catch up to Beem until the 13th hole. When Tiger got there, he took one look at the leaderboard (and saw how far ahead Beem was) and he was toast. He talked himself out of his stupor by the 16th hole, but by then it was too late -- he couldn't catch up. Beem played some amazing golf and he certainly deserved to win. It was just weird to see Tiger so rattled.
A lot of players would have withered from the pressure of having Tiger chase them...Beem didn't...and I think that rattled Tiger a little, not having someone wither before him...then he got it together and finished strong. Good tournament.
on Tiger's first bogey on the back 9, it actually looked like he had lost hope... rather than judge his short shot, like he meticulously does on every other shot on the green, he just walked up to it and hit it, thus leading to a miss and a bogey... it just looked like he had lost hope... until the final four holes, when it seemed like he thought: "wait a minute, I'm Tiger freakin' Woods, I can win this thing"... that's when the afterburners were turned on...
I thought it was more Beem not crumbling than Tiger sucking. With 5 bad minutes of play, he still had a great day. His emotion cost him two shots at thirteen, but his emotion also drove to a fierce comeback attempt. Beem just kept hitting great shots and played conservatively on the last hole.
