Because you simply can't top Carpenter's remake no matter how much CGI you add. Also, the remake (of the remake) will probably have some female cast members, and I think that will hurt the film. The all male cast made the setting seem more bleak and remote.

    i won't say:
    mayzar?
but i will say, in the interest of inclusiveness, they remake one with an all female lesbian cast.

Indeed. The greatest science fiction film of one of the greatest decades in the genre.

It's Oscar worthy filmmaking if you ask me.

Was scared of the debate of what is sci-fi compared to fantasy but its too good a topic to avoid :)

Just thinking, the mid 70's to mid 80's had movie theaters with emerging technoligical methods to bring scripts to life, the emergence of cable tv showing movies around the clock, emergence of VCRS to watch movies almost on demand, emergence of cassette tapes for the soundtracks. Big screen TVS became more affordable. Emergence of computers and video games based on those movies. There was still remnants of after glow from landing on the moon.

Thats a tough period to beat, no wonder there was so much sci-fi mania.

If it had anything done by ILM in it, it was pretty much gold.

And not just Star Wars flicks.

Just look at how many of these mentions had ILM effects in them.

My pick might be Captain EO.

    j/k

I cannot believe I left this out of my original post in this thread. Negative rep for me...

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/554AX4l1tmw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/554AX4l1tmw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Repo Man is not just one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies of that era. It's one of the greatest movies of all time. It also holds the honor of best soundtrack. Book it.
