Oh man, friggin' trainwreck radio right there! Pretty sure old RR had a talking to after that appearence by someone!?!? Man, dude was GONE!
I'll never forget when I was kid Robert Reid trying to pick up my Mom at the Denny's across 59 from what was then the Summit. Came right up to us (we were sitting at the bar, just me and her) and started hitting on her. He stayed sitting in the stool next to her for like 5 mins throwing bad game. Later my Mom told me he offered her some coke. At a Denny's. To a single Mom and her young kid (5 at the time, in 1985) Pretty scumbag-ish but whatever, we were at Denny's so I guess it was on us.
I met him last night at the SB Nation Houston launch party. Super nice guy. He had some pretty funny stories to tell too after his fifth Crown Royal or so. I'm writing a story about it on The Dream Shake right now. Terrific guy, I can't say enough about him.
Yeah, he really was. Here is the story up on The Dream Shake if anyone is interested: http://www.thedreamshake.com/2010/6/11/1512915/rockets-legend-robert-reid-on
Thanks. That's a good read. Don't agree with him on the Kobe thing (didn't Kobe throw his teammates under the bus after losing too?), but heartily agree with the flopping thing. "Oh, let me tell you about that. Guys in the NBA in the 80's flopped. They did. But when they did it the referee would look down at them and say "man, get your ass up!" No, you had to earn it." Great quote.
Here is the video from the launch party including an interview with Robert Reid. You can see Reid cracking me up at 3:39. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FpaBXVIKTVU&border=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FpaBXVIKTVU&border=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
