Ok first of all NEVER EVER NEVER go to the Verizon Wireless Ampitheater in Selma, TX (San Antonio). Why? The staff are clueless, rude, and in general are complete morons. The police officers are complete bastards (can I please drink my beer in peace??!?!?). The crowd was horrible (I swear I am getting to a point here). And the parking and exiting was nothing short of a complete nightmare (40 minutes to get to the freeway).

Ok so I go see Rush last night. My favorite live band to see in concert mind you. We got there kinda late, but had RESERVED seats under that canopy thingy. So when we finally get to our seats, I stand up to yell, play air guitar, etc, etc. Two EXTREMELY RUDE ass-holes behind me yell for me to sit down and make stupid threats if I dont. HEY THANKS FOR THE BUZZKILL FELLAS!!!I didnt pay 50 fuc*ing dollars for a ticket to sit on my ass and golf clap at a rock-n-roll show! If I wanted to do that I would go see Bette Midler or something.

My question is this: Do I have the right to stand up at a concert blocking the view of others behind me, or do they have the right (since they also paid for a ticket) to make me sit down in my seat?

    Good show by Rush nonetheless.......

Maybe if they were in wheelchairs or something they would have a valid gripe.....but I am from the school of "on your feet". Its your buck, do want you want to do.

How was the Rush show? Did they play the entire Red Barchetta or just that stupid medley? Damn that pisses me off. I really wanted to see them Friday in Houston but I had to work until freaking 8pm.

That's complete bull****. I would've been so pissed. The only time I get annoyed is when people are standing on their seats (even then I just stand on my seat), or when some guy has his girlfriend sitting on his shoulders so she can see. But standing up...you've got to stand up, that's ridiculous.

Oh, and SA sucks for rock shows. The crowd always freaking sucks. Every show I've been to there has been undersold it seems.

I never sit down when requested to if I am at a rock in roll concert (unless the person asking is somehow incapable of standing up). It's a freaking rock concert. It is expected that people will stand up, and if you go fully intending to sit the whole time, then you have to go fully prepared to have your view blocked the whole time.

The only way I'll go there for a DMB concert again will be if my tickets are free. I'll have to be sure that my cooler is stocked as well.

Hey if its hot and the chick is topless on the shoulders I am not complaining....Concert? what concert?

Usually this is why you have a seat ,most concerts have standing room only on the floor to avoid this....
Technically your supposed to sit in your seat unless monky see monkey doo is happening....
I do not agree with this..A concert is their to raise hell, have a good time not sit and golf clap or act like a log.

There is nothing that pisses me off more then people that do that, you shouldnt act like your in church when your at a rock show. People have done this to me at Rockets games as well, "your being too loud", "we cant see", etc. And I always tell them that I am at a sporting event, not the library. As far as I know the purchaser of the seat has every right to stand or sit.

You should have thrown him and his buddy the finger. Calling them pansies would have been acceptable also.

Summit your so damn right! I have had the exact same thing happen to me....I got evil stares because I was standing up, making some vulgar remarks to the refs.....

I told each one This is my seat I am a season ticket holder, if you do not want your kid hearing language they can hear on Tv then keep them at HOME!

Sporting events are high adrenaline pumped events, people are gonna cuss, yell, scream and raise hell....

I so despise those damn fans who sit behind the goal like bumps on a log!
If I had a dollar for everytime Rudy or Van said the F word I would be rich!

Drew, I think we all feel your pain. I can't imagine for the life of me why anyone would want to sit down while Rush is jamming stuff like "Limelight" or "Tom Sawyer." That's the problem with the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in SA- too many seats, and the lawn is too far away. I wish that there were a GA floor section.

This is just as bad as those old, boring alumns that go to UT football and basketball games to sit down. They even call the ushers to make people sit!

A sarcastic "don't rock out too hard there, buddy" would have been nice. Then laugh at him and keep standing and rocking to your heart's content.

A similar incident happened to my friends and I at a U2 concert in high school. The guy behind us actually shoved my friend, and put his hands up like he was going to fight. My friend knocked the guys own hands back into his face, and while it should have been tense, I couldn't help but start laughing.

Anyway there was no further incident the whole show, and we continued to stand up and wave our arms etc.

I'm envious, I missed Rush (again!)

You had every right to stand...
I've had this problem before, and here's how we dealt with it.
We (me, my friend, and our dates) went to see Black Sabbath and Night Ranger at the convention center in Beaumont. We were on like the 3rd or 4th row of lower prom... when NR went on, we immediately jumped up and got ready to rock...after the first song was finished, some preppy looking boys behind us got our attention and asked "Would you mind sitting down so our girls can see?"....at which time we laughed at em and told em to "Tell her to stand the hell up, this aint no Duran duran concert!"

and just kept on...Screw em...concerts were meant to be enjoyed on your feet yelling and screaming you r head off...especially when BS went on..(with Ian Gillian, what a voice that guy had!)

Not to derail the thread or anything....but if you want to simulate a Rush concert, here is what you do. Play any riff on a guitar and have it loop. Now, take a cat and cut off one front foot, and one back foot, then drop it on a drumset somewhere. Then, go and find a 2400 baud modem and dialup to some random connection. Loop the sound it makes when it connects. Now you have your vocals.

That's pretty much all you need. :D

    Ouch!! That was harsh Raven...

As talented as the members of Rush are, you obviously aren't in any position to judge them. Have you even ever heard Rush (outside of Tom Sawyer, The Big Money, or Subdivisions)? The stuff that gets played on the radio is by no means the best they have to offer...

I have heard plenty of Rush...certainly enough to decide whether I like them or not. My post above was partially a joke, partially true. I mostly just don't like the singing. The band is very talented, and I absolutely love that one instrumental that gets radio play (not sure of the title off the top of my head), and I like Working Man...but most of their other songs I can't stand because that high voice of the lead vocalist just greats on my mind.

ok, my bad...I took you seriously.

I'll agree that Geddy Lee's voice can be irritating...but for me the quality of the songs and the musicianship more than makes up for it..

    oh btw....greats==grates :D:p

I got some tickets under the canopy for $5 and saw Lenny Kravitz there last night and didn't have any problems. The people were all into the show, standing, yelling and dancing. Lenny really knows how to rock the house!

I am going to see Rush tonite here in Dallas at Smirnoff. Lyrically, they are great in my opinion. Also, to listen to Neal Peart is to listen to one of the most talented, if not THE most talented drummers ever to play.

I had a close friend in a band back in Houston, and he was a drummer. He was a very talented guy. He told me even on his best day, to play what Peart plays, he'd need two more sets of drums, and two more drummers.

    Oh well......
