Mango: And the point is ....... this team is not only capable of that record, I think that will be the drive. Great out of the chute. Killing them at mid-season. Tailing a bit late. Then a resurgence the last fifteen games. Less starter injuries this year will add five games top our left side. Better attitude. Better teamwork. Better protection and defense will win a couple close ones, call it three more games. Francis taking command, especially late, will mean another eight games. Mobes will shine in his new role off the bench with a comfort zone that will add another three to five games to our win column. Just having Mooch will help a game or two. I would be disappointed in anything less than 48-34, but they are capable of 58-24. Well, while I am intrigued with the upcoming season, I seriously doubt we will have the best record in our history. (No offense oielpere... )However, I can see this possibly being a 45 win team, barring injuries. So I'm picking #9, as well. ------------------ How about the Houston Comets and their quest to become "Quadrepeatchicks!"

oeilpere, you rule. That's the sort of enthusiasm a fan should exhibit. Luckily, it's not just fanaticism. The Rockets showed more poise than 95% of all NBA teams in the last 15 games of the season. Coincidentally I also agree that the Rockets will be in the top 5 in the West. I happen to think that they'll take the Midwest Division title (Jazz? Spurs? T'Wolves are the only comp in this one.), but will be the 3rd overall in the West. p.s. I just posted in one of LHutz's threads. ------------------ get it Tag, get it! - a Jazzhole asking Greg Ostertag to rebound the ball.
I'm more with Bob & Hoop. Around .500 with the possibility of the playoffs. 42-40. Oeil first of all welcome back! Next I also think you are a bit too optimistic, but I hope I'm wrong. Our guards will be fine with Francis, Mobes & Anderson (and it looks more like a SG or SF in the draft) but I think in the West we still get eaten alive at the #4 & the #5 unless Dream comes back at full strength. Cato I still think is a waste of talent. No heart. KT could become an average to good PF but he will need another year or so of experience. I just don't think we match up with the big men in the west (Shaq, Duncan, Wallace, Karl, Cwebb) and although Francis will be great I think it is too early for him to become someone who can carry us night in and night out during a long season where we are fighting for the playoffs. Also I am a big-time Mobley supporter and I am curious to see how he reacts if we do sign a SG in the draft. I don't think he will develop Cato-itis after signing a contract, but you never entirely know. He showed the heart of a champion last year but I hope we don't hurt his ego by signing someone who cuts into his minutes. ------------------
Of course it all depends on who we draft and pick up as FA's, but I have a good feeling about this team like oeilpere. Maybe not that great, but this team was really gelling at the end of last year. If they can pick that back up, add a top draft pick and decent FA, along with a beefed up Cato I could see us going 49-33. ------------------ Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
oeilpere, Early in the past season, the Rockets had games in hand and gave them away at the end because of the lack of poise/inexperience that you mentioned. Capturing those games alone would have put them close to .500 ball. Improvement from Cato and the ability for the front court players to stay on the floor through less injuries and foul trouble should be worth another 6-7 wins which gets the wins to the upper 40's. To climb the extra 10 games that you project to the upper 50's will entail another key player aboard to lift the team to another level. The right draft choice and/or a significant trade will be needed and that means more than D Johnson and Fortson. Unless the Lakers can swing a deal for another player, they are vulnerable because they are superior at only two spots on the floor and average or below elsewhere. As posted in another thread, Cato is making progress. Perhaps not as much as he could, but definitely noticeable improvement and that could be enough to get the Rockets past the above average teams and chasing the elite. Even though you are reincarnated, there are certain things that you will do differently in this life than in your previous one on this BBS. So we will have to wait and see what develops throughout the summer. Western Conference LA Blazers Rockets (55 wins) Suns (because they don't have an improved Cato, scary to think if they did) everybody else Mango ------------------ Eat more spinach! 81-1 or realistically (assuming we make no major pickups other than #9, and we stay relatively healthy) 43-39 ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Draft Moiso. Trade Moises. Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
I think they win between 45 and 50 games. Youve got to remember that the JAzz, even with their old age still know how to beat most teams (not the lakers or blazers though), the Lakers and Blazers are still great, Duncan may not leave the Spurs, and that puts them in the 50 win area plus the SUns are still good (especially if they have a full injury free season) and the TWolves are still up and coming and may be even better next year. I definitely think the Rockets will be better than the Kings and the Sonics, but it is questionable if they can move past the Twolves, Suns or Spurs. Also expect imrpoved play out of Dallas and Vancouver in my opinion. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
