Hey you, get your damn hands off her! Love me some Back To the Future. That counts as Sci-Fi.....right?
Wow, I keep thinking of more. I thought this was the coolest movie when I was a kid: <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YtwCHfmDQ60&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YtwCHfmDQ60&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
The Thing is my favorite Carpenter film ever and it's not being remade but they are making a prequel about the Swedish camp, believe it's already in production.

I've seen this movie enough times to realize... they used a different voice for the ship in the final version of the movie. And I feel the need to mention this one... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0gMfFHmebi0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0gMfFHmebi0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Sorry, but this list really is not valid without Big Trouble in Little China. And I only mention it because people are really seeming to mix 'sci-fi' and 'fantasy' together. Six Demon Bag, people! Six Demon Bag!! Anyway, like other people have said, in no particular order, the top 80's Sci-Fi movies: Empire Strikes Back Aliens Blade Runner Wrath of Khan The Terminator Predator Total Recall Highlander (really only because the sequels insist it was sci-fi and not fantasy, ugh) E.T. Akira Escape from New York Robocop Back to the Future The Abyss TRON Last Starfighter I am sure there are a lot more... and a lot of other people have had a lot of the same selections.. yes the 80's was great, but the 90's was a great decade also.. it brought us.. C..G.. I... (for better or worse)
I imagine everyone can guess my favorite flick from the era, but really the entire decade was a golden age for science fiction of all kinds. Just look at the different lists here. The quality (and quantity) is truly amazing.
I know what you mean, watching a lot of my favorites again on bluray just made me realize how fertile the 80s was for quality SCIFI.
The Final cut of Blade Runner is essential for the director/crew commentaries alone. It begins and ends in the 80's with Blade Runner.
