Mad Max stared in 79', but the rest of them were made on the 80's.

The Thing is my favorite Carpenter film ever and it's not being remade but they are making a prequel about the Swedish camp, believe it's already in production.

No mention of short circuit and short circuit 2?
    http://www.fohguild.org/forums/attachments/r****d-rickshaw/81389d1216324627-can-robots-buy-alcohol-83_johnny5.jpg

Also Tron, Masters of the Universe, War Games, The computer who wore tennis shoes, Batteries Not Included, Neverending story (although that's more fantasy..), etc

    80s was a GREAT sci-fi decade.

I've seen this movie enough times to realize... they used a different voice for the ship in the final version of the movie. ;)

And I feel the need to mention this one...

Sorry, but this list really is not valid without Big Trouble in Little China.

And I only mention it because people are really seeming to mix 'sci-fi' and 'fantasy' together.

Six Demon Bag, people! Six Demon Bag!!

Anyway, like other people have said, in no particular order, the top 80's Sci-Fi movies:

    Empire Strikes Back
    Aliens
    Blade Runner
    Wrath of Khan
    The Terminator
    Predator
    Total Recall
Highlander (really only because the sequels insist it was sci-fi and not fantasy, ugh)
    E.T.
    Akira
    Escape from New York
    Robocop
    Back to the Future
    The Abyss
    TRON
    Last Starfighter

I am sure there are a lot more... and a lot of other people have had a lot of the same selections.. yes the 80's was great, but the 90's was a great decade also.. it brought us.. C..G.. I... (for better or worse)

I imagine everyone can guess my favorite flick from the era, but really the entire decade was a golden age for science fiction of all kinds. Just look at the different lists here. The quality (and quantity) is truly amazing.

I know what you mean, watching a lot of my favorites again on bluray just made me realize how fertile the 80s was for quality SCIFI.

The Final cut of Blade Runner is essential for the director/crew commentaries alone. It begins and ends in the 80's with Blade Runner.
