Thanks for the insight. I've never heard of boxing OR kickboxing until you mentioned it.

Aldo vs Penn? A couple months ago I would agree, but after Melendez toyed with Aldo, you guys think he would fair any better vs Penn?

If you don't enjoy stand up, maybe MMA isn't the sport for you. Perhaps you should look up a sport called "wrestling". In that version of combat you are required to spend your time rolling around on the ground with your opponent for the duration of the contest receiving points. If you are looking for something more intense than wrestling, perhaps you should Google "Sumo Wrestling".

Seriously though, it kills me when people say you're not an MMA fan if you don't like ground game. It is cool to see two guys who know what they're doing go back and forth, but there are some matches where it gets boring. Especially when it goes on for five rounds and nothing takes place aside from points being earned for takedowns. Maybe the Pride organization weren't MMA fans when they'd penalize fighters for not giving exciting fights.

Agreed and I think the UFC will continue to refine it's rules in order to make it more of a stand up sport.

One thing I hate is how so called "MMA fans," will place blame on the wrestlers for making a fight boring. Wrestling is part of MMA.

Maybe the one dimensional, stand up fighters should learn some take down defense? Or perhaps learn to fight when they're on their back?

Who said I didn't like stand up? I like all aspects of MMA.

Sorry, anyone who thinks it is boring when fights go the ground is not a fan of MMA as the majority of fights do go to the ground. On almost every ppv the crowd starts booing when the fight hits the ground and grappling emerges. If that is how you feel, you are watching the wrong sport.

And then they can call themselves kick boxing.

You're right, a part. I agree that fighters should be diverse, but they're not. In the end, a fight dominated with wrestling will be viewed as more boring than a fight dominated by stand up. If that were the case wrestling would have long been more popular than boxing. The thing that brings fans in from boxing is the kickboxing aspect and the submissions. Sucks if that offends you.

For me, the ground game becomes dull when neither fighter attempts to improve their position, but the ref usually stands them up after about 20 second of no action.

Watching GSP's ground game is amazing, the way he transitions from full guard, to half guard, to side control/full mount. It's an art.

a stand up fight, where neither fighter is willing to engage (see a.silva vs tiago) is just as bad as a blanket fight (kos v daley). IMO

Again, I'm ok with the grappling. When done right and it seems to be going somwhere it is great. Most fights, its not an issue and I also think the fans in attendance are silly when they aren't having it at all. I just kills me when nothing is really taking place.

The last GSP fight is one example, tough I realize some of that is also on Hardy's toughness. I know that will upset some as GSP is somehow exempted from criticism. A better example is the Evans/Silva fight. Evans did nothing the whole fight except take downs. The only part worth watching was the end when Thiago started lighting him up.

Sew- I agree about the stand up where nothing is done either. That is not a fight, thats just two guys looking at each other.

Sounds like you're in the minority. There's a reason why the crowd starts booing. I don't mind when the fight goes to the ground if a submission or ground and pound comes out of it but nobody wants to see two men roll around on top of each other not causing any damage to each other and waste time.

Certain fights on the ground can be pretty boring. Like this past weekends Kos vs. Daley fight. Kos laid and prayed and wasn't attempting passes. To me, GSP's ground game is very entertaining because he is always looking for the pass and then is constantly working ground and pound and looking for submissions. I guess it just depends on the fighter. Overall though, I prefer an exciting ground battle to an exciting stand-up battle, but that's just me.

I agree on the GSP assessment, but disagree on the KOS Daley assessment. KOS WAS trying to pass and get full mount but Daley was doing a good job of moving his hips and using his legs to prevent Kos from getting the mount. The problem was that Daley had no clue on how to get any offense going from his guard. He wouldn't know a submission if it hit him in the face... Kos was giving him the arm bar multiple times, but Daley never took it.

I'd rather be in the minority than be one of the tapout wearing screaming idiots who can't even see what is happening in the cage booing because a mix of martial arts skills are being used in MMA instead of just punches.

But that's cool that you are in that group.

I think this would be a real boring fight since both fighters are counter strikers and neither has shown they are willing to be the first to engage.

I agree. Machida's primary skill is evading his opponent and waiting for a mistake. That is a terrible mix with Silva who likes to use his length to keep guys at a distance and pick at them until he gets a good opening.
