Yes,the Rockets are my first love... The first team I ever used playing NBAlive with Hakeem Olajuwon on the team... Haven't really been keeping a lookout on their progress/news until last year as I do not live in the US, but I love them ever since.. Am hoping to catch them playing live at least once in my lifetime in the Toyota Centre.. Will be my first and only loved NBA team...
i've been watchin the rockets since they changed the name from summit to campaq center...dunno wut yr that was tho
my first memory of the rockets was when my brother was watching them the season before they won their first championship. I remember his exact words "next season they're going to win it all" Those words stuck in my head and I clearly remember every series until the final seconds when we won against the knicks. Well as much as I could remember since i was a 12 yr old girl. I think i was 12...idk. anyway, to answer your question after my very cool story...YES, the Rockets were my first love <3
Michael Jordan Bulls Glen Rice Hornets Yao Rockets gave up only loving players, but loving the organization of the Houston Rockets!
Exactly. I started going to Oilers games with my father the first year of the franchise. Two years later, we started going to watch the Colt 45's, AKA the Astros, and became fans right off the bat, pun intended. When the Rockets moved to Houston, I was an instant fan because I was already following them. Why? Because they had drafted Elvin Hayes and I was a big fan of Elvin's from watching him play for the Coogs. So I go back to the beginnings of all three teams who have ever amounted to a damn in Houston. I have yet to be able to get into the Texans, much to my dismay.
Rockets followed closely by the Oilers. I caught on to the Astros last. I couldn't stand baseball when we moved here in jan 91..
Sacramento Kings with Peja, Webber, Christie, Bibby and Divac and Rick Adelman and I HATED the Lakers because of that series. And enjoyed Kings vs Mavs games because both teams had top notch offenses and no defense what-so-ever. Adelman vs Nelson
I first followed Boston back in 1991 because I liked Robert Parrish. I enjoyed watching the center position play. First time I saw Hakeem highlights I moved to being a Rocket fan. Loved the 2 championships. Ended up collecting about 40 Hakeem basketball cards and when Hakeem came to Australia on a tour promoting his video I got a signed poster. Ever since I've loved the Rockets.
Raised in nyc, loved the knicks growing up, but when JVG left and Isiah Thomas took over I just couldnt stand to watch anymore. Basically stopped watching basketball till 2002. In 2002 I noticed Yao was getting pummeled by the media, being called a bust and a slow stiff. At that point I began to think to myself "why are they being so harsh, did they really think this tall chinese center would be able to dominate right away?" At that point I was intruiged by the scrutiny he was recieving. Once Charles kissed the hairy donkeys ass I was pretty much hooked on following Yao and the Rockets. The next year they hired JVG and company and was basically able to pick up right where I left off with the knicks as JVG was the coach there when I stopped following them. At this point I consider myself a die hard rockets fan. Ive had league pass since 2005 so I can watch every game. I started watching this team because of Yao and he remains my favorite player in the NBA, but I have grown to enjoy the squad as a whole. There simply isnt an easier team to root for.
The Rockets were not my first love - the thadeus has had many, many lovers. NBA Basketball started for me with a roommate I had in '95 - he and I were always very competitive with each other (I eventually ended up doing his girlfriend - yes, bad, I know) and he had NBA Live 95 for Sega Genesis. I didn't know a single thing about the NBA or any NBA players, but I played the game a lot and memorized the players and their statistics just so I could beat him at it (never really won many games though). So, a couple years later, I'm flipping channels and I catch an NBA game and I suddenly realize that I know most of the players on the court, I know what position they play, and I know what they're good at. It was weird - prior to this, I had never watched an entire NBA game. I ended up watching all of the playoffs that year. The first team that I really loved to watch was the Jason Williams/Vlade Divacs/Chris Webber/Peja Stojakovic incarnation of the Sacramento Kings with Rick Adelman at the helm. They were a lot of fun, and their showdowns with the Lakers were incredibly exciting. They were my favorite team even though I had never lived in Sacramento, but I lived in a small town with no home team so I figured I'd just cheer for whomever I liked. At that point, I was hooked on the NBA. I'd watch every game that I had a chance to watch. I was getting ready to move to Houston, and I was so happy to have a home team that I immediately started watching Rockets games toward the end of the 2001-2002 NBA season and have been a diehard Rockets fan ever since (even though they really sucked when I first started watching them).
i live in a soccer-crazy country and the only sports team i support is the houston rockets, thank hakeem for that. even after hakeem left and during our worst seasons, i only support the rockets. managed to catch a rockets game in 08 during their 22 game winning streak.
I was 5 years old and attended every playoff game during both finals runs. The Rockets always have been and always will be my #1 team. I have invested so much in the rockets, I hardly root for any other Houston sports team.
Fav bball team ever was : Divac CWebb Peja Christie Bibby Mavs/Kings Playoff series were epic , the fun part was Kings used to own the Mavs in the playoffs.
read the signature. he knows that its squad not squad. ive been with the rockets the whole time as an nba fan
I am also a transfer student .... I started watching the Rox when Yao was a rookie also. I was in Houston doing a gig (I'm a music-an) and had some down time so we happened to be right by the Summit and decided to catch the game. Bought some tix off a scalper (nosebleeds for $10) and saw my first live NBA game. They were playing the 6ers. Something about Yao had me hooked right away and it wasn't long before I bought NBALP and started watching every game. Before that I wasn't into sports much. I overkilled them my freshman year in HS and went for a clean break. I loved watching the Bulls during the Jordan & Jackson years. Who didn't? I would sit in my room with the game on and act out every play on my little nerf hoop hanging on my closet door ... sound familiar? During these years I also played on a city BBall team ... we won city champs one year! I was probably the least talented player on the team - if I was on a team now they'd probably be calling me Brian Cook. I got out of sports because in HS I was playing freshman soccer, and also was in the band. Both classes met at the same time, and so I approached my coach & director to help solve the problem. The director said I could just come every other day ... my coach said I had to choose 1 ... so my choice was made. I went towards music and never looked back ... until that fateful day in Htown when Philly was in town .... That's my story (not exactly in chronological order) and I'm stickin' to it ...
Absolutely, Olajuwon is definitely my favorite player of all time and the first player that I ever liked.
