I don't have insider, but the depressing conclusion was summarized at mlbtraderumors.com:

    [rquoter]
In today's blog post at ESPN, Buster Olney discusses the trade value of Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman, which might not be as good as owner Drayton McLane would like. One GM noted that Houston's ace battled back trouble last year, which makes him a scary investment because of the potential to underperform and/or breakdown.

Another executive noted that the contracts of both players might be prohibitive. Oswalt is guaranteed $33MM through 2011, while Berkman is making $15MM this season with a $2MM buyout of his $15MM club option for next season. It's also worth noting that the first baseman is hitting just .185/.290/.352 in 62 plate appearances since coming off the disabled list. If McLane decides to move one of his franchise players, it might be a tough pill to swallow since the return is expected to be less than stellar.

    [/rquoter]

Olney essentially tweeted the same yesterday afternoon:

    [rquoter]
Rival execs think Oswalt and Berkman would have trade value--only if the Astros are prepared to take secondary prospects and eat a lot of $.

    [/rquoter]

Though that could just be posturing at this point. When the trade deadline starts to approach, and the crunch is on, GM's might be a little more willing to rationalize away some of their concerns. At least, that's what I hope.

I really enjoy Bagwell commenting on Saturday nights. He is much better than Deshaises.

I'm pretty impressed with Paulino keeping it together in that inning.

He pitched well through 5 then looked like he was about to give up his typical big inning, hitting a batter to start things off then making a throwing error to first...

What a joke of an offense.

Not like it matters with this offense. A 2 run lead might as well be a 10 run lead but I think Mills should've pinch hit for Paulino here. He gave you 6 strong innings and showed clear signs of losing his command in the 6th.

Then again, maybe you keep trying to stretch him out and get him over that hump. We'll see...

I didn't realize he was facing the bottom of the order. Great job by Paulino.

Cash made a couple of sketchy plays in the last couple of innings.

That's probably ballgame right there. Kepp draws a walk, Berkman with a good AB but gets unlucky then Lee with a GIDP on the 1st pitch he faces.

For the 2nd consecutive game, the opposing pitcher is going into the 8th inning with a 2-hit shutout.

Turned it off for awhile but yeah I second the notion of Paulino and Bagwell. Paulino did a great job tonight. Probably stretched him because the bullpen used so much. And too bad we have no offense. How sad. Also, I too like Bagwell in the booth. Lyon now in. Wouldnt be surprised to see things implode here w/ Lyon

This is looking remarkably like Paulino's strong starts in the 2nd half of last season and the offense gave him nothing.

Lyon is gonna blow it. Or rather implode; as if the lead isn't already big enough.

Ha I know. I'm scared when the Lyon enters the field. We'll be lucky to get out of this.
