healthy manu, jefferson and parker are better than Kobe+ Artest. If the Lakers lose Odom the Spurs are now the favorites to win it all.
Well if the Spurs fire him if I was DM I'd be all over Pop before he has even left the SPurs office lol
[rquoter]Spurs coach Gregg Popovich likes the moves the team has made so far this offseason. "If we don't win it, I should probably be fired," Popovich told NBA.com. However, he added that the Spurs will only go as far a healthy Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili next season.[/rquoter] Duncan - 78 games, healthy for playoffs Ginobili - 75 games, healthy for playoffs Parker - 56 games, healthy for playoffs Jefferson - 81 games, healthy for playoffs McDyess - 77 games, healthy for playoffs So, what do you think? Should the Spur front office take Pop's advice if they don't win it?
i suppose they are healthy but they are worn the hell out. just like the rockets when they had drexler barkley and hakeem. if they would have all been 5 years younger they would have murdered the celtics team from 2 years ago. but they were just old and worn out
IIRC Pop once said he will retire when Timmy retires. Maybe he knows something we don't...... Spurs on it's last window?
I think Spurs are prolly done as a Title contending team , there are various younger , and up n coming teams that will rule the NBA's landscape.
why do you people underrate gasol so much on this board?? I don't get it.. I dont like the guy but give Pau some props.. He is definitely a better player than Duncan now. How many Laker games have you watched??? If you have watched them you will see that Gasol carries that team when Kobe struggles. Gasol was a HUGE part of their championship last years against Dwight and the Magic. Gasol was a huge reason why the series didnt go 7 in the first round against the Thunder. Gasol > Duncan Right now
They were lucky to win 50 games and make the 2nd round of the playoffs. TD and TP aren't up to snuff and Richard Jefferson is pathetic. The Spurs shouldn't even be where they are now. Pop did a great job this season. When it ends tomorrow, he should have no shame in what they accomplished.
Ha. My favorite post of the thread. Looks like Popovich wasn't the only one who was a bit over-optimistic about his players.
In hindsight, the Spurs would have been far better off buying another pick to draft Budinger and never have gone through with the Jefferson trade. A bit more health for the Rockets (even without Yao) and a quicker resolution of the McGrady situation would probably have been enough to bump the Spurs from the Playoffs. A deeper bench for Memphis and/or a higher priority for winning in New Orleans would also have been enough to bump the Spurs from the Playoffs. Portland, Oklahoma City and Houston should be improved next season. Memphis will need to decide what kind of future that they want to have. New Orleans could be better with new ownership. San Antonio is going to struggle keeping up with an aging roster and a bloated payroll.
Yeah the Spurs are so undermanned. Just go back and read this thread. They had an embarrassment of riches going into the season and were hailed as championship contenders everywhere. When they weren't, it was only due to injury concerns, which they basically didn't have to deal with this year. Pop himself said what lots of people were thinking already. Yet you're going to come here and say they actually OVER-achieved if they lose to Phoenix? I knew you were a big-time Pop supporter, but do you really expect anyone to buy that?
If you think Pop's coaching has been the problem with the Spurs this year, you are entitled to to be wrong. I don't need to read this thread about their talent level now that the season is over. The notion they had an "embarrassment of riches going into the season" has been proven wrong. RJ's mental laziness is staggering. I actually thought getting him was a good idea. But at least the Spurs had enough to knock the Mavs out. From my standpont, they served their purpose. I wish they had faced the Lakers in round 1.
I didn't say his coaching was the problem. But on what grounds did they actually OVER-achieve this year? If at the beginning of the year you were told the Spurs would be relatively healthy all year and completely healthy for the playoffs, and then lose in the 2nd round as a 7-seed, you would say "hey, I would never have expected that, they really over-achieved in that case"? You're going to sit there and put it all on Jefferson, who was brought in to be a 4th wheel, and praise Popovich while his team didn't live up to expectations?
