Possible. Rockets have enough assets to trade for a top 10 pick this year. Back in 2004, Phoenix traded #7 pick to Chicago for a future first-round pick and 3million, so they had enough cap room to sigh both Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson.
This year, teams like Clippers or T-wolves would probably trade their top 10 pick for future picks and keep their cap space for future free agents. If rockets really think someone can contribute right away like Brook Lopez or Brandon Jennings, they should use those New York’s pick to get it done.

It seems like every year some lotto team trades their pick for under value. The celtics traded their #7 pick in 2006(?) to Portland for Sebastian Telfair. Portland later turned that pick into Brandon Roy. Last year, the wizards traded the #5 for Mike Miller and Foye. WTF?

There's no way the twolves trade that #2 pick. They're extremely talent-deprived on the wings and will not pass up on Evan Turner. The clippers and pistons are the most likely to trade down or out of the lotto completely, IMO.

This window is only because of Yao, and I think it is no longer DM's primary motivation for 2 reasons: 1) Yao is not dependable enough to bet the whole future on, and 2) our total talent base, including Hill and upcoming 1st round picks, gives us more future value than the "Win With Yao" strategy. We can overspend a little to Win With Yao, but I would think it more wise to only make good deals, and not worry so much about now.

It is also possible that they are going to pursue what they consider a reasonably worthwhile plan for WWY, and blow it off if they can't make it happen. I.e., maybe getting Bosh for a reasonable price gives them a good shot at winning a championship with Yao, but if they can't pull that off, they focus more on the overall talent-building plan. I would orient the plan 40% for WWY, 60% for overall talent-building, and maybe make it 25/75 if we can't execute whatever strategy they think is likely to bring us a WWY championship.

Unless you trade a great player (like scola, brooks) you dont get a top 10 pick without giving your 1st round pick.

    What?

Only if a #10 pick were a sure thing, and it's not. You're going to trade a Scola for a rookie that might very well be an ordinary player after a few years, or completely wash out?

I meant to say that, for the point of view of the team that have the top 10 pick. I dont want the rockets do that.

With Morey, all things are possible.

He will raise the dead, unfurl Bert's unibrow and silence DaDakota all in one fell swoop.
