Aaron brooks is going to be in line for a big payday soon. If we get bosh we will have 45 mil in three guys + ariza makes it over 50mil. We still have to pay scola and seven other guys. Realistically I don't see how we keep him unless les become cuban or buss, so why not just include him in the bosh deal.
For one thing, the CBA will change next year, and all signs points to salary reduction. Also, Yao is going to get a paycut in the year after for a long term contract. The length may be too long, but per-year salary shouldn't be too bad. The Rockets are fine as long as they have 2-3 rotation players every year making peanuts.
We can keep Aaron Brooks just fine since he's our own player. If we're doing well, I imagine Les would be fine going into the luxury tax to keep him.
AB is our best player, and will be paid as such....Yao, should get a much reduced contract, if one at all. Who knows what happens to Yao...... And, we don't have Bosh....but your point is why I am not sure we should get him... DD
I wish we could do a SnT for Rose. Brooks is good and all, but Rose will be better. Too bad salaries won't probably match.
I am not against getting Bosh, but worried about how much he will cost in relation to his value. I think both Tmac and Yao were terrible contracts in hindsight. DD
"Paying Aaron Brooks" sounds like the title to some artsy-fartsy flick with the same music as Brokeback Mountain. That is all.
Really the only think we have to worry is how much another team is willing to pay AB. He will be restricted so we could match any offer.
The outcome of this year will determine AB's future with the team. If they acquire Bosh, and have a great year he'll probably get paid. If this season doesn't go according to plan, the Rockets might try and move him next year. No Bosh probably makes him staying a certainty. There are going to be a lot of moving parts this offseason, hard to say anything for sure. If they Get Bosh Keep Scola Keep Lowry Pay Brooks Their payroll in 11-12 will probably be over 80 million, Les is gonna need a good reason to spend that much.
Yes, the Rockets' team salary will be swelling if they re-sign Scola and Lowry, AND do a sign-and-trade for Bosh, AND re-sign Brooks in 2011. But Yao should (hopefully) be due a pay cut, and either Jeffries or Battier (whichever one is not included in the Bosh sign-and-trade) would be coming off the books (hopefully Battier could be re-signed at a substantial discount), and a guy like Budinger (if he's not traded) will still be making less than $1M.
If both Jeffries and Battier are not included in the Bosh trade then who is sent to make the money work? Ariza is the only one that comes to mind, but given their current situation with players making too much on long contracts do you think they would want Ariza?
Only one of Battier/Jeffries/Ariza HAS to be included in a Bosh sign-and-trade. The requisite salary for matching purposes can be made up using Jordan Hill (who would likely be included anyway), David Andersen (or even Chuck Hayes, if the team option is picked up) and a little salary filler. That last filler could be comprised of the signed 2010 pick (if Toronto and Bosh are willing to wait 30 days after he's signed) or with the non-guaranteed contracts of Mike Harris and Alexander Johnson. Bottom line: The Rockets don't have to lose two out of three of Battier, Ariza and Jeffries. And it's likely that Toronto won't want to take back two of those three. Not unless the Rockets are willing to take back a bad contract from Toronto, that is.
Do you think its likely that they would take on another soft PF like Andersen? He has 2 years left on his contract right? Well anyways it would be great if we could somehow hold onto Battier and resign him for 2-3 million after this year. I'm scared of what's going to happen to our defense once he leaves.
Yao's contract (a little bit more than half of TMAC's money)is terrible? Yes, he was out for the whole season, but that was paid by insurance.
Andersen is owed $2.5M next year, but his 2011-12 salary is only partially guaranteed for $185k of his $2.685M. So, . . . he's basically an expiring contract, with the added benefit of being an attractive financial asset in the summer of 2011 if Toronto wants to take back salary from a salary-dumping team. Agreed on Battier. The Rockets' team defense absolutely STUNK at the end of the year with Battier out. I think that showed how much the team needs him. As much as his haters don't want to admit it.
He does technically have 2 years left, but the 2nd year is a team option. So he's practically an expiring contract.
