Yeah, Austin definitely has more pedestrian friendly roadways... all over the inner city area near Zilker Park, etc...

I am about to move further from Memorial into River Oaks and I'm definitely going to miss having to drive inside the loop and through the park to get home... sometimes I lose cell phone signal service so I can never talk on my phone while driving through that part, which is pretty relaxing.

Why surprised? They have a lot of outdoor activites and it is just a beautiful city. Everytime I go there I take my bike, the hills are awesome to ride through.

Austin is a college town which means there are more young people there.

When I was in college, I could eat and drink all the crap I wanted without gaining a pound because I was so active. And by "active" I don't mean just working out etc. I mean just the every day activities of the average college student.

When you get older, get a 9 to 5, and have the every day stresses associated with being an adult, it gets harder to focus on exercise and good eating habits. Not excusing it, but [overused cliche] it is what it is.[/overused cliche]

Most of the hills I ride go to UT and various area colleges.

You can understand why San Antonio and Houston are up there. People just like to enjoy food... but when it comes to working off all that food, people are LAZY. It's like that here in SA, I see it every day. It's also like that in Houston... I've lived there pretty much my whole life and when I ask fatty's about why they've become so ****ing fat, they usually answer by saying something like "you have to enjoy life, eat like a man".

It's because we're all young, hipster Pitchforkians with infinite Indie Cred. It comes when you get your Voter Registration Card in Travis County.

The problem with places like Houston and San Antonio is the increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Because you need a car to get around, there's a lack of physical activity. Also factor into account local fare is largely centered around Tex-Mex burgers and BBQ, and you have a recipe for fatness.

Pitchforkian Culture is tantamount to proper nutrition and health, and in some rare cases, proper hygiene as well.

Saw something recently where Oregon was the only state to have a decline in number of obese kids... and nobody really knows why.

Don't forget the mandatory skinny jeans uniform. If you don't fit in them how else will people know you listen to good music?

This describes Austin as well. I don't care what anyone says, Austin is not pedestrian friendly.
