When i talk about deals, i always look at the cap rules and such. The rockets are over the cap which is a given, so they have to match within 25%. If the raptors make a deal, calderone or hedo is going to be part of it, but thats not to say a 3rd team who needs or wants a pg or sf can't be involved. If its just bosh, then we're still looking at 13m worth of contracts that has to go out. Also, toronto could still hold the deal up because if they let bosh go, they would then have 9m in cap room for free agency plus draft picks. If they move calderon to a team for a player who's salary is around 6.7m, that would give them almost 12m in cap room. Toronto doesn't have to take a bunch of contracts and cripple their team for bosh. Bosh doesn't have to go to a team that wants to trade or gut the team to aquire him. Both sides have great options. he could go to miami with wade and another 14m free agent. Because morey has done a good job of getting salaries down and shorter, it takes more players to get a big deal done and kinda hurts the squad in that aspect.
There's the 25% + $100,000 rule. That's as close as a team needs to get in a deal. So, Bosh @$17mm, for example, would need @$12,150,000. Battier + Anderson + Hill = @$12,500,000. Ariza + Hayes = @$8.6mm v Hedo @$9.8. Well within 25%. That's my arithmetic. It works. Both times, both ways.
Who is like 10x better than Lowry. By your standard I could compare Hayes to Shaq because they both can't shoot freethrows.
True that. Lowry is the backbone of this team. He may not get you 20 + points all the time and his long range shooting is still suspect but he's the best decision maker on this team IMO. Solid defender, fearless driver, excellent tempo controller, great passer (especially post entry) and smart overall player. If we're able to acquire an elite PG that can score than I'd be all for trading Brooks but i'd be content with keeping Brooks as long as we keep Lowry. I'm mostly excited to see a Lowry, Martin, Yao combination. I think all 3 of these players compliment each other really well with Lowry being able to make good post entry passes to Yao or penetrate. Kevin being able to slash and or space the floor with his range and Yao kicking out to Martin for 3 and letting Lowry crash the boards. Lowry is a very good rebounder for being a 6 ft pg. Don't mean to turn this into a Lowry Love fest but the dude is Rock solid and he better not get moved.
Bleezy! You're right, what the heck was I thinking. BTW - I think we need to start disagreeing on topics more often to make our posts a little more interesting. Maybe we can turn it into an Asidd_2000 vs. Rocket94-95 Part Deux.
He's high on Lowry coming off the bench. If turk was to come here, that's 5 guys on the floor that can score. Rick's playbook will be wide open next season.
I feel like Terko would be a great asset especially come playoff time. He's just like a Butler or Jefferson that Dallas and SA picked up, but I don't know if the contract is worth it. Then again Peja is getting paid over 13 mil a year now, and I find them two very comparable.
What are you talking about? I was responding to this: My point in bringing Rondo into the conversation was simply to prove that there is such a thing as an all-star level PG who lacks a consistent jump shot (especially from behind the arc). I'm not sure what standard you believe I am suggesting by simply saying "Rajon Rondo" But comparing to 6ft PGs is a lot more fair than comparing 6'6 chuck hayes against 7'1 Shaq http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kcdTZ2qcB8
If were taking in Hedo's albatross contract, no way would I give up Ariza... Unless they give us their 13th pick --RB
Rondo has a bunch of good players surrounding him so he could get away with it. If you watch the celtic games you'll notice teams tend to slag off of him because of his outside shooting. We can't do that because of our need to spread the floor when Yao is in there.
He is going to be paid $11M through 2014 and he is 31 years old now. This is a horrible contract. He is about worth only 1/5 of it if factor in the luxury tax stuff. If Les is willing to take on this contract. There is no doubt he has a heart of champion. so far, all talks.
To be fair there wasn't any good FA's last season, the only one we really went after was Gortat and he was a restricted FA.
Agreed, Calderon is younger has one year less on his contract and get paid slightly less. I would rather take him on than Turk. If I we're DM I would not take on Turk's contract even for Bosh. Also I think Bosh would be a tad upset if he hears that teams are leaving the table because Toronto is trying to tag Turk onto the deal. If we could work out a third team to take on Turk than I am all for it.
No Bosh if we have to take on Hedo... He's done and we already don't play any defense. Plus we would have to give up on Scola or Ariza to make it happen. I like the team with Yao back and Hill developing physically and mentally. Yao/14th Pick - Hassan Whiteside/Udoh/Vanardo - Chuck Scola/Hill Ariza/Battier/Taylor Martin/Bud/Taylor Brooks/Lowry This team competes at a very high level. We need to play better D across the board.
But if we do get Turk with Bosh we would have the tallest line up in the NBA. Assuming we are giving up a package of Brooks, Scola, Battier... PG- Lowry 6'0 (whose strength help makes up for his size) SG- Martin 6'7 SF- Hedo 6'10 PF- Bosh 6'11 C - Yao 7'6
Whoa, whoa there buddy. Which one of us would be Rocket94-95? Neither of us is that..... abstract? outside the box thinker? You know where I'm going with this...
4th largest population just curious, but where did you get that number? i've had trouble finding hard evidence of "market size." the rockets are 9th in nielsen ratings in the nba and 4th in population. larger population means more fans + more media outlets. more fans and media = more exposer and endorsements. that's what bosh is looking for. recognition. the guy had to beg fans on youtube to vote him into the all star game a couple of years ago, when on any respectable team he would be an mvp candidate.
