honestly, what he did with the players they gave him was amazing, that's dumb. I mean on paper the raptors are a much better them than the bulls and the bulls still fought their way to the playoffs, they just didn't give vinny the players he needed to do anything...at all.

I don't think this is about performance. This is clearly about how Paxson and VDN can't get along. The Bulls didn't really care about performance this year, they were going for the offseason, otherwise they would not have salary dumped Tyrus Thomas and John Salmons. For the Bulls fight hard to make the playoffs when it seemed hopeless and then give the Cavs a tough series I think shows that VDN could motivate his players. Even if his schemes aren't great, being able to motivate is a large part of what an NBA coach has to do.

When a time fired a coach, do they have to pay the remainder off his contract, like when a player is waived.

I am pretty sure since it is a guaranteed contract.

I still remember Hakeem spinning him and DRob into a whirling dervish 20ft away from the basket in Game 5.......swish......SA calls timeout......Vinny of Black shakes his head in disbelief

I was thinking the same thing. The front office hasn't been drafting good players in the past with Rose and Noah being the exception. They lost Ben Gordon, as overrated as he is, a good player that spaced the floor well for them. They lacked any offense outside of Rose this year. Hinrich was inconsistent at best and their bench was awful in terms of production. Vinny shouldn't have been fired. They should have waited to see what big time free agent they could sign during the summer and let Vinny have a run at it for at least half a season.

No surprise here. He and the GM have always been at odds.

they could've had d'antoni or avery johnson. they didn't even make offers to either... instead they hire vinny the black. why? because he was the cheapest option.

they went with the cheapest option because they didnt think the team could / was ready to win for the next couple of years. now that rose and noah have matured into really productive players, its time to spend money on a coach that can get the team to the next level.

also, a bigger name coach is more likely to attract free agents since they have so much cap space this summer.

Totally against this, he's kept that team competitive through his entire tenure, while not flooring a team that is anywhere near the conference's top talent. You might could argue that the team is anywhere from 7th to 10th talented team in the East, yet they've made the playoffs, the last two years and played very well against two conference heavyweights (Cavs and Celtics).

I'd say wait one to two seasons, at least and give the guy another shot at it with premier talent on the floor.

    He's good above average coach.

You guys that like Vinny so much, let's see how long he waits to get another head coaching job. He'll be lucky to get an assistant position.

Not surprising. Another job open on the coaching market.

Wojo or Spears said you can cross of JVG for Bulls
Avery Johnson met with 76ers in Houston today
    Doug Collins met with 76ers
Talk Pat Riley may go back into coaching, firing Spoelstra(Nets, Hornets would target him according to Wojo)
Our own Turner on Hornets radar

Were they expecting more out of the Bulls? They simply don't have a very talented roster, it's not VDN's fault.

Clearly most of you have never seen the Bulls play, because if you had been paying attention you would realize that VDN is a horrible coach with absolutely no ability when it comes to X's and O's and forming a game plan or a discernible offensive system. One NBA scout when asked about VDN, laughed and said that he had never seen a more juvenile Offensive system and noted that for much of the YEAR(s) he has only ran 5 TOTAL plays. The Bulls are successful due to the brilliance and desire of Noah and Rose, and VDN had nothing whatsoever to do with their success. Go read the Bulls fan's reaction on blogabull.com to see how sad they are to see VDN get fired...
