Just went to Barnes and Noble. Read the early edition of the NY Sunday Times for free. Their NBA Notebook section talks about Grant Hill. Apparently people close to him say he won't be in Detroit next year. Thankfully, he doesn't seem to care much for San Antonio. I know that Detroit has extra cap space, with or without Grant Hill. I'd like to dream we could trade Walt + KT + #9 + Orlando pick (and let them keep the pick they own us) to get him. Even if we had a shot, I think he probably wants to stay in the East. Too bad. Too, too bad. ------------------
Yummy....lottery pick from Detroit next year....must....have.....Eddy Curry. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
NIKEstrad, Is there a writeup on the web about Curry? This is a whole year out, but isn't he targeted already for a top 5 pick? Mango ------------------ Eat more spinach! Live long and prosper! Donate blood! Smeg will be assimilated. Now...back to updating The Serious Police Files.
Mango-I'm sure you can find it. If memory serves me correct, Curry already is nicknamed "Baby Shaq" He's 6'10'' 280. Pretty athletic He's just a monster. He started out as a gymnast. There's a little profile http://www.basketballphenoms.com/curry.htm He's targeted by some as #1, and this draft is super deep.....let me add must have Loren Woods, Tyson Chandler (another HSer), Gerald Wallace, Eddie Griffin, Terrence Morris, Brendan Haywood, Carlos Boozer, and Troy Murphy. Next year is sickly deep. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
I would pick Troy Murphy before anyone in next years draft. The guy will be a superstar. ------------------
NIKEstrad, He appears to be ranked the #1 HS player for next year. The gymnastics background can only help his footwork and balance. The pictures showed that he has a big frame rather than having small bones with excess weight on them. Mango ------------------ Eat more spinach! Live long and prosper! Donate blood! yep, exactly. And unlike this class (many rate Eddie Griffin ahead of Miles, and the top 4, Griffin, Miles, Wallace, Stevenson, are all pretty close.) he is just about a consensus, the only person close being DeJuan Wagner, a 6'2'' Iverson clone, minus the headcase, give or take other abilities. Chandler is 3rd, and Kwame Brown, the next in line as the "next Kevin Garnett" is 4th. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Grant Hill would fit GREAT with our team! The thing is (a) chemistry, (b) we have one franchise plaer, do we need two?, and (3) can it happen? (a) No reason to think it can't. Hill's a good guy, so are ours. (b) Its true: every championship team needs two guys that can be the MAN (exception: Houston '94: but then again, it was hakeem). (c) Probably won't happen. Detroit needs a lot, but most of all they need depth. Even with Wizard, KT and 9, they still won't have what they want in depth. It wasn't so long ago that they were champions-- they want it-- no waiting. ------------------ G
Not much chance of us getting Hill, in my opinion. Grant went to my daughter's high school, South Lakes High School in Reston, VA, in the Washington, DC area. I just saw his mother at my daughter's graduation. He's one heck of a good guy, so's his mom. She's a scream, and raised him right. She represents Snoop Doggy Dogg. From what I've heard, (I'm not saying I have an inside source), he wants to stay more in the East, if possible. New York, Chicago, Washington, Orlando. Everyone knows he really wants to win a championship, or else he'd stay in Detroit, so he'll look at who he thinks has the best chance to go to the Finals, besides LA. The only thing that has him thinking about San Antonio at all is Duncan, and nice guys like Robinson and Elliot, and knowing he could be the piece to take them back. Duncan can take on Shaq. He'd have to do a sign and trade, since San Antonio doesn't have the cap room. He does like Francis, another DC guy, or so I'm told, but I don't know that that means he'd want to play for us. I've heard nothing to indicate any mention of the Rockets. If there was any possibility of a trade with Detroit, Hill would have to believe we were on our way to the top (with Duncan letting him know he'd sign with us next year, or something equivalent), and he could help us get there. He's going to sign for the maximum. The highest probability is for him to sign with Detroit for one year, then go for the maximum as a FA next year, when he can get more. He's a very loyal guy, so he might give Dumars a chance to see what he can do for one year. But if we were going to do a sign and trade, we'd have to include Cato in the package (base year problem), no doubt, and they would probably ship us Jerome Williams as well. We'd have to give them all our draft picks, so they could rebuild, Cato, KT, Williams, Drew, and Rogers. That's awfully expensive, but probably worth it. But would Hill be confident we could add other pieces to the team to go all the way? We'd have real problems after Dream left, even if we got a center in next year's draft. If we could somehow get Croshere, (after we've traded everything away?), we might have a chance, but we'd still be hurting at center, although if we could somehow get Duncan next year, who'd like to play with Hill, after Dream leaves, all would be good. Duncan/Croshere/Hill, Anderson and Mobely/Francis. Unbeatable. ... yeah, a pipedream ... ... but I wouldn't be surprised to find that someone is trying to pull it off. ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
A pipedream, exactly. But we've pulled off bigger trades. Well, no we haven't. Grant Hill is big-time. But we did get Stevie Wonder. I would like to ask all posters here to forgive my desperate trade scenarios. Being in Iowa City, I only got to see a few nationally televised Rockets games; those were toward year's end, when Walt was kicking ass (made Utah look sick). So I might place too much stock in the man. But he did (finally) play well. My point being, if Grant leaves, we simply must make the phone call, at least, to see what we could offer. Maybe it would take a Cato + 9 + KT + picks, but hell, we might offer the only reasonable package for the man, if he chooses to play here. We might not win a championship in 00-01, but he'd have a better shot here than in Detroit. And if Detroit doesn't want to lose him for nothing.....? Wishful thinking, I know, especially with our arena status still in the air (although the pro-arena votes would show up in force if Grant were on the team). As far as center, didn't Brad Miller of Charlotte play for Rudy's national team a few years back? He's a step in the right direction for 2.3 million. P.S. New York won't get Grant Hill, either. To do so would mean moving Sprewell and Camby, (probably). Two BYC for a BYC. Since this is all speculation anyway, I'll ask a question that I should already have an answer, from reading this BBS so long: Can a pending free agent be traded before his free agency kicks in, if the team taking him knows he will re-sign? I don't think so, but just wondering. ------------------
from that deal i saw above...I don't mind giving the wizard away... but giving away kt... i would not do.... we are in need of big guys in our lineup so let's not give away kt.... i say we add drew , walt and maybe a little extra sugar ------------------ TycoonChip
uhhh... I can't believe someone just mentioned giving up KT as a possible stumbling block to getting Hill... ... of course, the trade'll never happen . Expect the worst, and no matter what happens, you'll be pleasantly surprised. I fully expect the Rockets to draft Khali El Amin with the #9. ------------------
The Rockets will draft Brad Millard. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Draft Moiso. Trade Moises. Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
