    First the Found Fathers.

    Now Hakeem?

(lets destroy everything from the past so we can satisfy our ego's perception.)

without Dream, Elie doesnt ever have a chance to make some of the shots he made

this is a disrespectful question to pose about Hakeem, ur credibility is not lookin so good

    I laughed, too.

Every time I look at the pic, I feel like I can actually hear Sanford saying it.

I'm sorry, ElPigto, if I gave you the wrong idea about who was more valuable to the Rockets—Mario Elie or Hakeem Olajuwon.

As I said, Hakeem was a hall of fame player, regardless of the outcome of that game or any other game he played in. I've said several times that players define themselves by the time they finish playing.

Great TEAMS define themselves by WINNING.

It shouldn't be taken as a slight to Olajuwon by anybody to acknowledge that Mario Elie had just as much to do with Hakeem being a champion as Hakeem did for Elie. And again, for all the deserved individual accolades Hakeem received, Hakeem acknowledged the need for productive, quality teammates himself, regardless of those teammates' pedigree.

Underestimating the "freaking role players" is what got the Rockets those rings, ElPigto.

That, and those "freaking role players" making plays and shots themselves.

I don't think anybody has the idea that Mario Elie was a better player than Hakeem Olajuwon, ElPigto. I certainly don't.

But I'm glad he was on Hakeem's team when Hakeem needed him, and when the Rockets needed him.

I'm all for giving personal accolades for personal achievements. But TEAMS win championships.

If I understand the context of the question posed by the OP, I really can't see a problem with giving as much credit to Elie for winning when it counted, as is given to Hakeem for creating that opportunity.

A lot of us here watched Steve Harris and Buck Johnson and Frank Minnifield get put in a lot of those same situations by Hakeem, and watched them all fail...and sought to hang Olajuwon out to dry for not making those players "better"...

Hakeem understood, better than some of us here do, it seems, that TEAMS WIN. Great players are great players no matter what. But they don't win a team sport by themselves.

Please try not to devalue Mario Elie's contributions in an unnecessary effort to defend the greatness of Hakeem Olajuwon, ElPigto. In a lot of ways, what Mario Elie did (and did consistently, I might add) was just as rare and special as was Hakeem himself.

We should have all seen enough of that the last few seasons to know the difference between being a good role player and a bad one....

Without Rudy T, Elie wouldn't even be in the game (could've been benched)

Rudy T = MVP... in terms of he played a part in it

The REAL MVP was the water boy.

Without precisely delivering much needed refreshment to Elie during the previous timeout, Elie doesn't have the energy to make the big shot.

    Water boy, MVP. Nuff said.

Yes this thread was completely sarcastic, I wanted to know how many people are actually insane enough to actually think along these lines. As I said in the first post, I tried to hint at the idiocy of such a thought by saying "I was reading the Aaron Brooks or Lebron James thread/poll". This thought is every bit as idiotic as that thread. Can't believe there are people who believe this!!! Mario Elie is dime a dozen, Hakeem is once in 10 life times!!!

THe only reason Mario got those shots was because dream drew all the attention.

That and without Dream they wouldn't even be in the Playoff LOL!

No it didn't. The game was tied before the shot. We went up 3. Then it was a foul shooting contest.

If Elie had stayed on the 99 squad, the Rockets would have won the title. He'd have slapped Pippen around like MJ and Oakley used to.
