The comparison doesn't make sense IMO. You are better of comparing Dirk to Jamal Crawford or some other jump shooter.
We'll never know, won't we? Duncan plays as much good as he needs to. On other team he might have larger role, duh?
same here - i also saw the poll results before reading the first post and i went and and . then i read the first post i was all duncan is the greatest PF ever. dirk is not. and i still might have to go w/ duncan right now - he knows how to get r' done.
now a days is Dirk, but as a history and achievement Duncan is the best player who ever played at the 4.
Duncan plays as much good as he needs to? Like when he shot 1-9 and scored 4 points in game 4? Or when he shot 3-9 and scored only 11 points in a game 5 blowout loss? Duncan is still a very good player, but he is not able to play great basketball consistently anymore. At least not offensively.
Spurs have the horses to win playoff games even when Duncan is having an average/below average game. Mavs can get blown out even when Dirk's having a great game. Dirk is the MUCH better player right now and saying otherwise is f'ing r****ded. Not a GM in basketball that would take Duncan over Dirk at this point in their careers. Age. Injury history. Trends in production. Advantage Dirk in all 3.
You must be "f'ing r****ded" if you think basketball is only played on one side of the court. Dirk sucks on defense and is a probably a good reason why the Cubanites are out of the playoffs. TD on the other hand is the anchor on a team that is alive and with championship aspirations.
some people on this site undervalue defense. the same people that say dwight howard sucks because he "has no post moves" dirk is a great player (nobody can deny that) and gets flashy offensive numbers but has no substance to his game. i want my power forward to be a defensive presence in he paint and bang down low but still put points on the board than a power forward who plays like a 3 and shoots off balance jumpers over guards.
Where Dirk's points come from shouldn't matter in this discussion. 5 ft away, 10 ft away, 23 ft away...whatever. When you're as efficient at scoring as Dirk is - WHERE he gets his points is pretty worthless to debate. And what good is it being a "down low" scoring option when you can't hit the free throws? Dirk's defense? Not to Duncan's level. But not many are. His team defense has improved miles since he first came into the league. And he held his own versus Duncan on more than one occasion during the series.
Duncan is no longer a great defensive player. He can dial it up, but he can't consistently do it. Duncan doesn't guard dirk.
By that logic, Al Horford is clearly superior to Dirk as well. The Spurs won because they were the better team.
