Get an audiobook and just close your eyes for 8 hours... That's what I do!

my mother had insomnia the whole time I was a kid. she would take pills, sleep late, and lose her job. happened over and over. finally she discovered if she took a couple hits off a joint 30 minutes before she wanted to go to sleep she could fall asleep and sleep through the night with no after effects.

she quit the pills and used pot for about 10 years to help her sleep. eventually she discovered she didn't need it any more and now rarely uses it unless she needs to.

your government doesn't want you to know pot can be useful.

maybe voodoo, but it still screws up your sleep even if it helps you get to sleep. i've thought about pot too and i'm every bit the insomniac that the rest of us are... decided it wasn't worth it.

You have a lot to try. Just start trying things at first. Be thankful you aren't at the stage where mostly everything doesn't work lol.

    1) Herbal Sleeping Teas (easy to find, particularly at HEB... kroger & randalls blow for selection)

    2) OTC sleeping pills - I don't know what the latest re-packaged form of the same thing is these days but try those from your local CVS, Target, Walmart.

    3) lots and lots of stuff at Vitamin Shoppe for sleep, take your pick and see if anything works for you there.

    4) Melatonin supplements- some people swear by this (taking it maybe 30 mins to and hour before bed and making sure it's fairly dark when you do) and it's fairly cheap too. try out 1 or 3 mg at first.

    5) Benadryl - yeah it's an anti-histamine but it's effective for a good amount of people at knocking you at night. mg may very depending on your body type. try 50 at first and then advance to 100 (4 pills).

there's lots more advice I can give, I wrote the god **** book on insomnia. you are a once or twice a week case, my sage wisdom will fully kick in if it's 5-7 nights a week :).

    good luck!

Outside of the doobie reference, I found if I put in a DVD of my favorite movie (Bladerunner for me), put a blanket over the tube (keeping the room dark) and listen to the movie (imagining the movie in my head), my mind doesn't wander so much and sleep comes much quicker.

Not saying it's going to work for you, but it was a godsend for me.

(I now know the first 20 min of Bladerunner by heart :) )

Please allow me to second the mar1juana recommendation. It's a damn-near foolproof insomnia cure, far cheaper and better for you than Ambien or whatever else a doctor would prescribe. You don't need to take massive bong rips to get the desired effect, either. Just a couple of puffs.

You really shouldn't take Tylenol PM regularly or at all unless you have a headache or something. Tylenol PM contains diphenhydramine, which is the same active ingredient found in most over the counter sleeping pills. But it also contains acetaminophen (tylenol) which can be rough on your liver if taken repeatedly. Try taking something like Unisom instead.
