If Batman is declining, we keep him and he takes a pay cut on his next contract. Vet minimum???

The reasons we keep him is that his value to the team isn't just on the court. He is our glue guy, locker room leader, TEAM CAPTAIN!

I believe he should stay with the rockets till the end of his career, on the vet minimum salary if he's willing to go for a lower contract. He can then be a player coach like Avery Johnson was for the Mavs, and transition to Head Coach when Adelman leaves or retires.

There is a lot of value in Battier in this sense.

He's a 25 year old, 2 guard with long arms with an affordable contract. He just completed his second year in the NBA, with a strong rookie season. He's a great leaper and is deadly shooting off the screen, a la Rip Hamilton or Reggie Miller. He usually plays hard and with passion.

The dude is in a funk and I'll be damned if there wouldn't be several teams vying for him if put on the market. Maybe the pick and Hill is too much but I'd do it for just Hill, no disrespect to Hill.

Rockets at the 2: Kevin Martin, Jermaine Taylor and Kyle Lowry. Rudy's game could blend well with Adelman's offense, especially with Yao - open threes, back cuts, he runs without the ball well, and of course shoots around screens great. And, I don't think its a stretch to say Rudy can become, if not already, is better than Martin at defense.

Chase is great and even younger, I think 22 years old. But Chase is much bigger and more suited to the 3. I think Rudy is a better face up defender against quicker 2 guards. Though, lately has looked like crap on D.

He could def play the 2 with Chase at the 3. I don't know maybe Rudy is redundant for the Rockets.

People overhype him because he had a great game against the USA.

Rudy is not that good. Bud is already better than him.

are you crazy? pick+Hill is what Raptors want for Bosh... Rudy could be had for a late 1st rd. pick or even less

I think this comparison is accurate in the sense that Rudy, like Drazen Petrovic, will perform better only after he's left Portland.

I'm just glad the Rockets missed out on Rudy and Morris Almond!!! And they had to settle on Aaron Brooks!!!!

Ouch if they'd selected Morris Almond. That was one botched draft for the Jazz!!! At least Rudy is playing well, good back up for end of the 1st round guy. Isn't that what you hope for from guys taken at the end of a 1st round?

Aaron Brooks is looking like the top guard (pg or sg) of that draft. He very well could have been a top 5 player in that draft. People need to realize, the Rockets hit pay dirt in that draft. Brooks and Landry both could have been top 10 picks based on their production this season. And now Landry's been traded for Martin, an All-Star guy.

    Great job by the Rockets.

I was always a fan of Rudy and would've loved for him to be on this team... but what you say is true.

Statiscally, Rudy is the better shooter. Chase attacks the basket more, though. I can see him hitting 50% FG and 40% 3PT once or twice in his career.

No he's not. Chase is perfectly suited for the 2. In reality, they are interchangeable anyway. Chase does everything rudy does anyway so i don't see the big deal. I've watched the rudy mania since last year and i still wonder why the hype. Maybe if he went somewhere else he could play more and maybe produce, but when they had injuries he didn't step up anyway. At least chase did when given his chance.

With the size of Battier's contract the Blazers would have to send another or more assets the Rockets way. It's looking like a good way to pick up a a PF/C in Freeland who they don't need anymore.

Obviously, if Battier's contract can be used in a major deal, they do that instead.

Look at Dooling on the Nets. If your primary backup can't help because he's always injured what's the point?

It's very true that this board has overvalued and overhyped this guy since Day 1. Aside from a few glimpses here and there, he's done absolutely NOTHING to show he's anything more than just a glorified spot-up shooter. The Chase comparison is very much relevant given their similarities and how much we've heard about Rudy's potential and how we wanted him in the 2007 Draft. Lucky for us, we ended up Chase instead -- cheaper, better attitude and probably already Rudy's equal on both ends of the floor.

That said, there's little need to have both. Pass.

I like Rudy unlike some players who have yet to play a NBA game that people are willing to give the house to get. Rudy has shown he can play at this level its just too bad Portland is stacked at the wing position.

and so are we...so we shoudlnt really bother unless we can get him at a discount after securing a big man.

we dont have a legitmate backup 2 guard.

What most of the time our back court looked like this:

    Brooks and Martin

    Brooks and Lowry

    Lowry and Martin

With a dash or Lowry and Budinger but that was rare.

Now the problem with the backcourts above is that out of all 4 if those players only one of the guys is a legitimate nba 2 guard.

We can defiantly use Rudy at the 2
