It's all about Bosh now, but are we still aiming at Amare? I know it sounds strange and Amare is not a popular choice on the board. But 2 seasons in a row, I remember that CLUTCH created threads to suggest Amare is coming(last year he even photoshopped Amare in Rocket's uniform). And there's that rumor about a last minute fallout of an Amare deal. All these give me an impression that: Rockets are quietly but aggressively pursuing Amare for a long time. That also implies despite all the critics about Amare's weakness as defender/rebounder, D Morey and Adelman are actually very high on him. Now my personal take on Amare: He's a much better finisher than Bosh and has a beautiful high post jumper. Adding bosh makes us a somewhat 'soft' team at all positions, so I prefer Amare to balance it out. As for his defense, I think it's more about Sun's style and coaching. And with yao and battier/ariza...the issue should be balanced out as well.
He woudnt be my first choice, but as much as I love Scola, Amare would be an upgrade for us. The problem is I dont want to give a guy who's had micro fracture surgery and who may have to wear goggles throughout the rest of his career a max contract. But if Morey goes for him, then he's done his h.w. and that will make me feel better. At this point, I'll trust Morey with whatever decision he makes.
Well we nearly did land him in the deadline so I imagine we will but I think he will stay in Phoenix.
I like Amare and I wouldn't complain if we got him. I'm just sure how well he would fit with this team. -Amare and Shaq didn't work out -We don't have a Steve Nash type pg but rather Brooks who is more of a combo guard -His defense is questionable at times -When you compare him to Bosh, Bosh just seems to be the better alternative
We don't even know that DM the GM is pursuing CB4. It is my supposition that Amar'e is Me-Me, is demanding too much for his overall value, and the question remains: Could a lineup of Scola/Yao/Bosh or Amar'e finish games successfully? It is my supposition that Scola/Yao/Bosh could work; Scola/Yao/Amar'e could not. I think Amar'e and McG should unite.
Good thread -- I was considering making it myself a while back, but never got around to it. I think it's clear from DM's actions that he wants Amare. I would think he would pursue Bosh first, but I can see him approaching the Suns about a SnT as well. One thing I worry about is the rumor that some insiders here have posted that he has no interest in playing for Houston.. which I'm not sure I believe when Morey keeps going after him regardless.
Even though Amar'e has been playing great since the all-star break, do you think once he gets a nice contract he is going to continue playing with effort every night?? I'd rather have Scola
I definitely wouldn't complain if we landed Amare. At least we would get some nice highlights from him. The man is a beast at the rim.
Neither of them will really help that much to this team. Amare is overated because he plays w/ Nash. Just another decent backup C/PF and we'll be right there w/ the top dogs.
No Amare...he's just a Landry. We need someone that play defense inside...not just offense. Plus i think Amare game thrive ONLY because of Steve Nash that help distribute him the ball and make him look good but in actuality, he ain't that good.
I think with Amare, like at the trade deadline deal, it would have to be opportunistic. Meaning, we would not have to give up much if anything to upgrade the team. As an outright free agent signing, Amare will not be a good deal. Plus, they know he probably wouldn't be able to put them over the top like they think Bosh could. I think the Rockets and Morey will only publicly court Bosh because its a sign of goodwill that they think he can be "the man" on a championship caliber team. The consensus about teams like New York, New Jersey, etc.. is that they are just going to work on getting essentially the best player they can whoever that might be. This sort of puts the free agents on notice because they would like to wait and see who will land where first before making decisions. The fact that we already have a supporting cast set in motion, we would know who stays and who goes, and the max contract we can give him before 12:01, July 1st gives the free agent a way better situation to be headed to. Plus, he knows beforehand that they are going to be competitive. If he signs first with New York, then he still has to question whether they will be good enough to win anything.
i talkd with DM at a fan night and he told me he was looking at johnson(probly not anymore with kmart on board) and bosh..
