I think the better question is would Cuban ever trade Dirk esp. if the Spurs beat Dallas in the first round. You have to question whether it's the supporting players or Dirk himself that keeps the Mavs from winning the ring, maybe Cuban does a SnT for Bosh with Dirk. Dirk would fit like a glove up in Toronto with all the Euros that team has.
Cuban almost blew up the team a couple of times in the past three years, and by blowing it up, I mean considered trading Dirk. Each time, he's backed off and tried to re-tool (a la the Astros) instead of blowing things up. Thus the Kidd trade, the signing of Marion, and then the big move to get Butler and Haywood. They were 10-10 from January 1 to February 9 and going nowhere fast. If they didn't get the Wizards trade, I think Cuban would've seriously considered moving Dirk at the deadline. The trade went down, the Mavs went on a big run, and everyone thought they were going to go on a big playoff run. Then the Spurs had their April revival, and Dallas (the city, team, and the crybaby fans up here) are all reeling.
Wasn't there a rumor out in like 05-06 when Shaq left the Lakers and sucked that Kobe wanted out and Cuban rejected a trade of Kobe for Dirk or something like that? Dude is loyal to Dirk and it wouldn't suprise me if he got a Kobe like extension this summer. Maybe something like 3 year/70 mill?
Right, at that time, Cuban wouldn't trade Dirk - not even for Kobe. I think he's backed off of that position with their recent string of playoff disappointments (cited earlier in this thread).

He's not getting any younger and Durant is only going to get better. I think you have to consider trading Dirk if they lose to SA. You get to a point where you think if it hasn't happened yet (championship) that it's not going to happen. And a sign & trade involving Dirk for Bosh would be very tempting to both teams. It also let's Cuban **** block Morey on Bosh, which I'm sure he'd love to do, because you don't want that guy coming to your division.
Nowitzki is doomed if he stays in Dallas -- he will never win a championship. Great player? Indeed. Champion? Hell no.
Cuban's moved Finley, let go of Nash, let go of Nellie, let go of Avery - if he thinks it benefits him, he'd trade Dirk in a heartbeat. For years, they've been building this thing around the many talents of Dirk, but more often than not, they're getting bounced prematurely from the playoffs. A number one seed, and they lose to the eighth seed. This year, they become the first two seed to lose to a seven seed. You live in Dallas, right? Listen to the talk shows tonight and tomorrow, there will be plenty of people who will start banging the "blow this thing up" drum up in the Metroplex. I can't wait :grin: Will be listening to the city grip as I head to the golf course tomorrow afternoon, and will be listening to them rip into Cuban, Dirk, and the rest of the Mavs on my way home. Here's what they were saying when the Butler trade went down.
If this can happen so can Dirk leaving Dallas. It'll be a shame, though. Dirk and Mark are cute together.

I'd be down with that too, but no way in hell Cuban trades Dirk to a Conference rival, let alone, a division rival.
Yup live in Dallas and I bet the idiots will be on the phone griping about trading Dirk. I still disagree with you because Cuban has a million times stronger relationship with Dirk than he did with Fin and Nash. A lot of folk discount Nash's agent-Bill Duffy's part in Cuban making the mistake of letting Nash go. Dirk has no real agent, it's just Dirk and Cubes. The only player other than Dirk that is untradeable to Cubes is Roddy B. But the Mavs are disgustingly terrible- 2-16 in road playoff games over the past five years.
