I wonder If DM is all over this? Omri Casspi was number 23 in 2009. Serge Ibaka was number 24 in 2008. Rudy Fernandez was number 24 in 2007. (Brooks was 26th) (Chandler 23rd) Kyle Lowry was 24th in 2006. David Lee was 30th in 2005. Delonte West was 24 in 2004. (Kev Martin was 26th) Perkins, Barbosa, Howard went 27, 28, 29 in 2003... etcetcetc...! Seems like it would be a solid investment with our draft crew...
If the Rockets buy that pick, you can count on there being a multi player trade during the off season.

I don’t think 3 million can get it done. Last year Rockets sent 3.2 million to Denver to get the 34th pick. When Portland bought the Fernandez’s pick (3 mil) from Phoenix three years ago, they also agreed to take on James Jones’s contract. Also why not buy the 26th pick? Low first picks are available every year. But I think Rockets prefer high second round pick because it will give them more flexibility. Last year, Lakers openly shopped their 29th pick on the market. The year before, Hornets sold their 28th pick to Portland simply for cash. This year, I can definitely see Magic get rid of their 29th pick because of luxury tax concern.
I think we are already too full and I would rather give our current prospects more time rather than add another and not have enough time to give around. Unless it's somehow related in a trade deal, I'd say no.
People, you do realize that the actual cost is likely $3 mil + salary dump, right? 1st round picks have positive value, even if it is #24. Atlanta can at least dump some contracts the way Phoenix did with Rudy Fernandez pick a while back. So no, I don't see the Rockets getting in the mix. 2nd rounders, which go at a lower price, are much more salary-friendly.

False. Teams are prohibited from including more than $3 million in any trade. The Rockets paid about $2.25 million for Llull's draft rights. While the 24th pick is a nice thing to have, there may not be room for that player on this roster. There is no way of knowing for sure on draft night whether a 3-for-1 or 4-for-1 deal will happen later in the summer. Plus, they'll have to basically pay double that player's salary when luxury tax is factored in. Intriguing proposition, but certainly not a slam dunk for Les and Morey to pursue it.
