A big time free agent would come to the Rockets because:- a) We have a lot of money to offer! b) We can offer the best contract! c) We can guarantee a championship or two ! d) Our coach Rick Adelman is the most accommodating when helping a Star player play at his best level! e) Our Point Guards are real play makers and always pass first! f) Our Coaches and Management are always honest & upfront when dealing with star players, for example see how they handled McGrady. g) Most of all we don't have any guns or weapons in our locker rooms.
You think locking max dollars in a guy who has had major, recurring, career threatening injuries is a good idea? When I said "if he proves he's back" I meant from a talent perspective. Yao isn't going to get crazy minutes next year like he has in the past. Even if he gets through injury free thats no lock that he will continue to be in the future. I for one would not want to lock major money in him long term.
then, you need to clarify it in your first post. please say loudly "I am back" then think about yourself in a fight. you lost in previous year. now you come back and loundly tell your enemy you are back. don't tell me you are wait for defeat again in one round. if yao gets injured again in the next season, you can't say he prove he's back.
Beeg time free agents don't NBA with dee Rockets due to there heestory of meestreating hi-kwality assletes!
the all injury prone team, every player on the list has had some serious, sustained injuries, especiallt t-mac and yoa "limp" ming
Another selling point for Houston IMO is the success the team has had in developing new players after acquiring them. For example, the way the team kept to its plan of developing Ariza despite his offensive slumps this season, and how Jordan Hill was given his opportunities after being treated as a bust in NY. Same goes for previous seasons with Lowry, Wafer and Scola. If I were a free agent, this kind of commitment and consistency would be pretty attractive to me.
u're right but it means that the player is looking for a champ not for money only i think smart players who know that nowadays to win you have to be with a strong inside presence, if they realize it then they'll chose Houston, cause the other bigs are well surrounded (Gasol,Howard,Shaq...) we really have an elite center, and a big free agent needs Yao to win a champ if it is just about money and media then we dont want him here
Only a YOF will still think this way (which I guess you are, Yao4real ). Yao has never been "the man", and its pretty likely he won't be "the man" ever. "The Man" is someone who plays till the very end, not someone who ends up sitting every time the playoffs arrive. Yao didn't just play last year, he had surgery almost every other year for the past 5 years or so. If it was up to me I'd have shipped him out by now for a healthier center, but oh well, let's just see how everything pans out....
In 08 Yao was 28, the "prime" age of a center. Heading into 2010 he'll be 30, and has suffered major injuries in both legs. Even if the doctor fixed his feet, its hard to imagine Yao won't suffer a dip in performance, not only will he be older, his mobility might have lessened even more due to the surgery. Btw Camby was a horrible signing so its really not a good comparison. 10 mill a year for that guy is way too much. That's already near what Bogut is getting, and the difference between the two players is like night and day.
I don't think we will have much of a disadvantage. Houston is typically liked by NBA players and we have an arsenal of roll players and draft picks that can be traded without impacting the team too severely. Also, we will be well over the cap next year anyway. Alexander made a cool $40 mill on insurance from Yao and Tracey and I think he's willing to invest that money for next year in hopes of a championship.
Please keep in mind the discussion has a precondition - HE PROVES HE'S BACK. you stepped out the line. the example was used to indicate teams are willing to spend alot on a good center regardless his injury history. camby showed trailblazers he can play and played well after they got him. since that he played every game w/o injury. sounds crazy but it is the fact. teams like to gamble on centers. the draft is another example. look at trailblazers. they can have durant but they chose oden. why? not bcoz oden had a better tryout than durant before the draft. bcoz a good big man is tough to get. if a center prospect has huge potential, teams will gamble.
