Just in past 12 years or so - Steve Young, Brett Favre, Rich Gannon, Jeff Garcia... I'm sure there are plenty of others I'm forgetting. I have a sneaking suspicion Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb will still be around in three years, as well. Especially for pocket quarterbacks who don't rely that much on their legs - there's no doubt that they can last well into their 30s. It's simply not a position that relies that much on athleticism. Regardless, fact of the matter is - if you have an elite QB, you don't start grooming his successor when he's 28.
IDIOT TEXANS! They could have had the Starting QB for the 2017 season! Why oh Why didn't they take a QB, this year's draft class is just chock full of great QB prospects.
Agreed. a tough hands-type guy. People keep comparing him to Welker, but I don't know if that really accurate or if they're blinded by the light. Shipley's an older rookie, but I'm hoping that means he'll be able to contribute right away (a kind of anti-Simpson if you will) I like how the team is really addressing our most glaring weakness (passing game). Gresham and Shipley should be in the mix on day one and along with Bryant; consequently our receiving corps should be just fine. heck, I even liked the Matt Jones signing. I'm so-so on Dunlap...I mean didn't we just draft Michael Johnson last year and give Rucker a two year extension this offseason? I don't know much about Brandon Ghee, but apparently he's really fast which seems like a plus. him and trent should work as our 3/4 CBs. If we can somehow get Reshad Jones or Kam Chancellor tomorrow, I'd be ecstatic, but overall pessimistic about finding an impact S in rounds 4-7. Realistically I'm hoping we can land a couple of Cook/Roland type OLs (read: big MFers) for depth, and *maybe* a K in round 7? If Shayne is back next year ima be some combination of and The only real disappointment today was not addressing the S issue, which is a huge hole in what I feel is an otherwise solid D. also, what boards to you frequent for Bengals talk? I don't care for the one connected to bengals.com (too emotional/non enough insight it seems -- I never know who to trust there).
LOL someone really suggested drafting a QB to groom for when he thinks Matt Schaub will retire in 6 years? LOL Clutchfans never disappoints.
dunlap i am so-so on as well. again, i think zimmer and the core defensive guys whip him into to shape though. i dont think shipley is a welker, but i can see why they might compare the two. i agree with you, i was hoping for a S in 3rd rd. we just signed nugent didnt we? shayne graham is solid, just not in big games. i dont post on any bengals message boards, i just usually read the one connected to bengals.com. agreed, theres a lot of morons that just wanna rail on players there. no real serious talk.
i thought the cat was gonna go crazy, haha, the schaub debates are funny. i'm not a texans fan, but schaub is a damn good QB. not sure why some texans fans hate him.
I can't believe the Panthers gave up a future #2 for a 3rd rounder this year. That is just pure idiocy. Surely they could have found someone ahead of the Patriots that would have taken a future 3rd and a 4th, or something like that. Unbelievable.
Well the more I follow BB the more convinced I am that he's basically the NFL couterpart of DM. His "value" philosphy of trading down to get even more assets is similar to how DM does things. His out of the blue picks also seem to mirror DM's style of picking guys we know nothing about. I suppose in NFL due to the high number of draftees picks of the same round tend to have similar values, and I think BB made a killing of trading down to get an extra asset or two but high enough to still get his man. NE started out with 1 first and 3 second rounds and ended up with a 1 first round, 3 seconds, a 3rd, a 5th AND a 1st round and a 2nd round next season. Simply insane The picks they got weren't that bad either. Most people agree that Spikes and Gronkowski were guys who can contribute immediately and who both fill major needs for the team, and while there are other needs to fill I really like the Mcourty selection as rumor had it he was actually the Jet's draft target. Price seems to me a good pick for his position but that's not really saying much. Cunningham IMHO is a bit of a reach IMHO, and pass rushing is one of their biggest holes right now, IMHO they should have traded some of their lower assets (3rd,4rth, 5th, two 7ths) to move up and get a prime guy for this position. Overall I give the draft pick selection a B, but the sheer amount of lower picks they got and getting a 1st and a 2nd round for next year bumps it to an A- IMHO. Depending on what may happen in the latter rounds, I think there's good chance Pats could end up having the best draft in the league.
I'd like to agree with your comparison, but the patriots have whiffed on a lot of the picks they actually make recently.
Allow me to sip some haterade for a moment.... McCoy and Shipley got drafted back-to-back? Really? Seriously? Is there some kind of conspiracy going on where everything that happens to them has to be related somehow? Are they going share a flat in Ohio? Hold each others' wiener when they go potty? Etc?
