Maybe it's common knowledge that he is, but I didn't know it. (Although truth be told I don't follow him or his comedy very much.) On the premiere of Project Searchlight on Comedy Central, he was getting drunk and complaining about how he was doing the show and everything... And then he rants about how a Mexican actor has is own tv show and he doesn't have one, very much implying that they shouldn't be giving Mexicans tv shows when there are white comedians who don't have one. Anyone else see this?
I saw it, and the show was a setup. That whole argument about Lopes etc. was made up. All the contestants 'shows' are made up by the creators of the show.
Come on....he is a comedian, who cares what they think. I guess Eddie Murphy, Richard Prior, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence...etc..etc.. are all racists because they make fun of white folks. Who cares what athletes and comedians think....SHEESH !! DD
Well, for that matter, who cares what anyone thinks? It is just a topic of discussion. Don't crap on the guys thread just because you don't think it is interesting.
Dakota makes a good point though....and I'm not sure it's "right" on either side...but I've laughed till I cried listening to Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy make fun of white people, using obvious stereotypical subject matter...and it's deemed "ok". but dennis leary gets up and does the same kind of thing talking about a mexican, and it's all wrong.... maybe neither should be done.... or maybe people should relax and learn to laugh at themselves...or maybe it's insensitive for me to even imply that. i don't know
The difference is obviously how it's said. Do you really think Eddie Murphy making fun of the way white people dance is the same thing as Denis Leary being upset that a Mexican got a show instead of a white guy? I didn't see the show, so I don't know the context or anything, but there is a huge difference.
Nah, No difference at all. Comedians are there to make you laugh, period. If you leave offended by a comedians remarks, then you are probably overly sensitive and need to get a grip. DD
Rm95, As someone who did standup comedy for over 2 years I know exactly what they are talking about. There is a double standard, it is taboo for white comedians to use racial stereotypes but not for black comedians to do the same. When we would do open mic night to test out our new stuff all the comedians would talk about it ALL the time. It does not make people racist, it just gets taken out of context. Comedians are there to make people laugh, not to tell the world how it should be run. Same with athletes, who cares what Tiger Woods thinks about issues, just let the man play golf. DD PS. Apollo is always starting racist threads...remember the ROCKY is racist thread....? I smell a troll.
I know, but these guys are always "ON" they are constantly cracking jokes etc..... Denis Leary has always been an ass, but that does not make him racist. Maybe he is jealous of that guy getting a TV show...so what? DD
DaD...I agree with you 110%. If a white guy makes a comment like Leary did, its racist. If a black, hispanic etc guy makes a comment like that, its affirmative action. Its a never ending argument.
So, if Eddie Murphy ever says that white people should be strung up from trees like black people were, he's just being funny?
