I tried doin those Brad Pitt 10 second reps. They were tough as hell. I had to drop down 10 lbs in order to get it done. I'm so fatigued today that I can't even work out. I'm not sore, but I'm fatiqued. I went to run afterward and it was hard as hell. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep that up or go back to my normal routine. It probably does work, but it put my muscles into some sort of shock!
If you are asking me, yes, I tried the 10 seconds on the bench, the military, and the leg press. My legs are feeling it the most.
I did 205 a couple of weeks ago one time. Amazing how 5 months ago, I wasn't even doing a barbell bench press!
Wasn't around when this was, so I'll answer now. I'm about 5'11, 155 and can max around 115-120. Its been awhile so I don't remember. I'm also 15, so give me a break. Other excuses are I'm a little tall, have skinny arms but big legs, I don't like weightlifting, and I barely started. So there. It may be more though. I had that around half way through the last school year, and started doing reps of about 100 after that. All that said, I don't like lifting heavy weights, but my coaches had this little program where we lifted what they said we were suppose to lift. I don't think it was a very good program, because it said you should do 75% of your max. I would think this would be easier for a bigger guy with a larger max, than a smaller guy with a smaller max. JMO, though. I'm no expert.
Havent maxed out in awhile, don't want to depress myself to bad. So far I dont go pass 175 doing reps of 10. Plus I have no workout partner, and don't want embarass myself having to shift the weights of me making a huge racket and gathering attention.
My basketball team stopped lifting 2 weeks ago since are coach cant do anything with us in august since its a "dead" period for us. If we would of continued lifting i was pretty sure i would of gotten up 225 x 1. On another note, i have a friend who wrestles and hes close to getting 300 (hes a jr in HS) and i am not making it up. He said he got up 295 x 2 a couple weeks ago.
Man, I wish my coaches were like that. My coaches talk like its football season, or offseason. If your not in football, you should be. They make us lift like were all football players, but were not. Only 2 coaches I could think of weren't like that, and they were my basketball coaches. But they weren't in power. I would like to tell some coaches that adding bulk isn't always good for a basketball/track athlete. (which I am.) If I didn't lift, they'd kick me out of athletics or make me run 90 miles or something.
I can only bench about 160 or so but its pretty good for me seeing as how im 6'2" 165lbs. Picture it in your mind. Kinda skinny but I'm working on it. I think it's fairly good for someone that doesn't do alot of lifting. ok make fun of me
Well he doesnt want us to stop lifting he just cant do anything, and personally i dont wanna stop lifting either, i enjoy lifting. We used to lift with the football players and i thought it was actually better than lifting with just basketball players, cuz i get pushed harder by the football players/coaches and being surrounded by people lifting hard gets me pumped and i lift harder too.
I don't have a problem lifting either, but I don't want to lift something 10 pounds under my max. Our basketball coach said that lifting lighter, but more can get you toned, which suprised me because I was used to the football lifting of lift as much as you can. I would pesonally like to look more toned, and remain agile, instead of big and bulky. Even if I lifted lighter, they would come around and say,"What are you lifting that for? That's too light." Gets me mad.
RC: Low weight + high reps = endurance High weight + low reps = power You would want something, ideally, that is in between to really get good tone.
I'm 6' 205lbs and have a personal best of 290, but after a couple years of investment banking hours, I quit lifting on a regular basis. It would be ugly to see me in the weight room now. Weight lifting just bores me to death, so instead, now I play racquetball for exercise. Definitely a great way to develop thighs/calves/a$$ muscles. I should probably supplement that with some type of upper body movements, but I just can not bear the boredom and pain of lifting weights anymore.
Ok, he didn't say tone. More like you can get stronger. Still, I can't get that with my coaches...wait maybe I can. A lot of my coaches got fired, including the AD, so maybe they aren't football crazed. Besides I'd rather be more of an endurance guy than a power guy. Doesn't the increased bulk make you less agile? I'd rather stay agile. I'd rather get a in between thing, like you said, though.
I dont know, i think i would rather be less agile than being smacked around under the boards and not being able to fight through picks. I dont know i just say try a in between thing so u dont piss off your basketball coach by trying to do tons of weight.
