Criticism is fine. Just back it up with some critical thinking and common sense. Those, however, don't seem to be a requirement for working at the Chronicle.
You misunderstood me. I'm not trying to start a movement. I don't want us to boycott the team. In fact, I will continue to support this team religiously because that's what I grew up doing. The only thing I am asking is for you guys not to act like someone just dropped an F bomb on everyone's mom when Jerome says the fans expect mediocrity. What's the outrage about? it is true, the team hasn't produced jack squat in 12 years, and yet we act like we won jackpot when we got past the 1st round last year. He's simply stating that fans have grown accustomed to mediocrity, which, considering the amount of suckage that we've witnessed in the past decade, isn't that outrageous a contention.
Conservative spending? Dude, the Rockets are right at the luxury tax every single year. And I don't think any of us would be happy with anything right now, because we have no idea what the team on the floor will be. We'll see how things go in the offseason and grade accordingly. OK, dude. You tell me - what star player of any consequence has left $30 million on the table? Because that's what the Rockets would have had to offer had they not signed Ariza and not traded for Martin. Players either re-sign with their own teams (most) or go via the sign-and-trade route, for which the Rockets have a number of assets (potentially including the two you listed). They don't straight up sign, unless they're Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva - overrated, overpaid mediocrity. You've only pissed three times in your entire life? Dude, that's amazing. You're incredible. To the rest of the board: it should be noted, for the record, that PointForward has impeccable sources: this is the same guy who maintains, despite dozens of articles, eyewitness reports, doctor's records and common sense to the contrary, that Colt McCoy was not injured in the national championship game, could throw the ball anywhere and any distance he wanted with ease and was engaged in a massive undercover conspiracy to prepare for the NFL draft. Just throwing that out there so that you guys know who you're dealing with.
hah. Nice little personal swipe/derail there, T-shirt fan. official diagnosis was a "stinger" bro. Look that up. Better yet, ask someone who's had one before (Pointforward raises hand!).
Do you work for the Rockets, or have you played for them? If not, you're a T-shirt fan, too. The official diagnosis was a pinched nerve, for which there are varying severities, like any injury. Here are just a few examples: http://www.rebuildyourback.com/pinched-nerve/diagnosis.php One of the common side effects of severe pinched nerves in the neck area is numbness throughout the arm. That makes it fairly difficult if your job is throwing a football with that arm. I'm not trying to make it personal or derail anything. Just showing that your recent history isn't particularly strong on reasoning or analyzing the actual evidence.
My impression of Blinebury was that the only kind of writing he was capable of was complaining, way before TMac turned sour. People who "respect" Blinebury because of his trashing of McGrady please remember, a broken analog clock is right two times a day. Just because you happen to agree with his view about McGrady does not mean that you should like him as a writer in general.
I don't see why the Chron would employ anyone besides the beat writers to write about sports. With the internet, opinion content is free and widely available. No need to pay someone a living wage for that. What is still valuable is a guy like Feigen who will routinely interview players and management and report and make commentary on factual content. To the extent Solomon does that, it's redundant with the work Feigen is doing.
I want to clarify that I don't respect him "because" of T-Mac bashing, it was just the first thing that made me realize he'd been right about something and I was being stubborn because of his negativity. He was critical, but he knows the game.
and why you said barely getting out, we won 4-2 to portland when the blazers had best record than the rockets, then the rockets were the only team to force the lakers (the champions) to a seventh game, and if Yao had played, the rockets could have won. Martin isnt soft, he drives and draw fouls, and btw we got a young asset to in Jordan Hill.
It's like asking me if I'd rather drink Kool-Aid in Guyana, or put my hand in Cleopatra's basket. I'll pass on both.
Also the Blazers had homecourt advantage, coming out 4-2 is pretty good. I am really curious as to why pointforward is in every thread involving Solomon.
agreed that most of Solomon's stuff is junk journalism, but in the net era hits count. he's stoopid enough to transform pop notoriety into local celebrity. thanks in large part to an over-reactive Rocket fan base. Whinebury at least tried to turn a phrase. feeling ashamed adding to the fool's legend ...
In the coming decades, the new generation of Clutchians (ToyCen Jr, etc) will read Blinebury's old blogs like we might approach ancient tomes written by a wise sage.
I think Jerome Solomon has become the new Tracy McGrady on Clutchfans. Numerous threads will be made, the common denominator being the presence of either die-hard "haters" or people so adamant in their defense you'd think they were related. A circular "debate" will ensue, with each side bringing the same stale, unrelenting "arguments" to the table and neither side listening to any of it. My personal opinion? Facts? Logic? It doesn't matter, because people have already made up their minds on the issue and they will NOT be swayed. Such is the inevitability of trends on Clutchfans. SIGH here we go again...
Making a fuss about it is just playing his game. Couldn't agree with you more. The Chron blogs are put there to generate web hits and web hits only. If you don't like what he has to say, stop visiting his blog. That's what I did.
Solomon is like that guy that everyone hates because he talks trash about the hometown team, but turns out to be right at the end of the year, and then everyone just hates him more. I think Solomon WANTS to be a controversial writer, so he intentionally has those sentences that "raises your eyebrows." I think what he writes is just an exaggerated version of his opinion, which is no different than what most journalists do. It just so happens that his opinions are different from most Rockets fans (if he is even a Rockets ).
